Dave Enjoys A Ferry Ride
Dave has always wanted to go on a boat. Last week he went on a ferry ride to Pelee Island. While he was on the ferry, Dave enjoyed an ice cream sandwich and pop. He really loved being able to get out of his wheelchair and sit on the seat on the ferry.

Unloved - A Film by Barri Cohen
Abode Respite invites you to the screening of Unloved by Barri Cohen on October 13th at 7:00 pm, taking place at Essex Sports Complex.

Cohen never knew her half-brothers, Alfred and Louis, who were dropped off as toddlers at the Huronia Regional Centre, a now-closed hospital and home for children with intellectual disabilities.

Speaking to the families and survivors of the HRC, she pieces together the story of her brothers' lives. These interviews provide hope and light, as the survivors support each other in their battle for recognition and healing.

Seats are limited and will be reserved at a first come, first served basis aside from those with lived experience who will be reserved seats and given priority.

Email aboderespite@gmail.com to reserve your seat.

Recipe of the Week
Beef Stew with Carrots & Potatoes
This classic French beef stew, otherwise known as Beef Bourguignon, is the ultimate cold weather comfort food. Chunks of well-marbled beef are seared in a hot pan, and then gently braised with garlic and onions in a rich wine-based broth. After a few hours in the oven, the meat becomes meltingly tender and enveloped in a deeply-flavored sauce. The stew takes a few hours to make but the recipe is mostly hands-off. Go ahead and make it a day or two ahead of time; the flavor improves the longer it sits.
