New Day hosted a fundraiser with Domino's Pizza on March 22nd and 23rd. They earned $5 every time someone ordered one of the special combos using the code. These fundraisers help New Day host activities and events and help self-advocates attend conferences.
New Day's Virtual meeting in March featured a guest speaker from the Essex County Library, Sherry Bondy. She gave us a tour of the Harrow Branch and told us all about the great services they provide at every branch. She also showed us all of the items you can rent with a library card. In the second part of our meeting, we learned all about bereavement and ways to cope with your feelings after losing someone you loved.
Save the date for April 5th at 8:00 pm. New Day will be speaking with Arms Bumanlag during his podcast "The Arms Bumanlag Project". We will be talking about New Day, what we have done over the year and what is next for our group. You can tune in on Facebook or by going to the below link to listen in. We are very excited for this opportunity.

Help Improve Employment Supports in Your Community - Have Your Say!
|
|
The Government of Ontario is transforming the employment services system. The City of Windsor has qualified for the next stage in the process to become the Service System Manager (SSM) and is interested in servicing the Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton catchment area.
The City of Windsor has asked its partner, Workforce WindsorEssex, to assist with some research and community consultations in the Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton regions that can collect feedback from employers, jobseekers, and interested service providers.
The goal of the consultations is to inform research and create a system that is outcomes-focused, client-centred, and provides a simplified and effective pathway to finding sustainable employment for individuals and employers, based on their needs. They want to hear from employers, jobseekers, and interested service providers in the three regions to understand how employment services in your area can be modernized and how they can connect individuals with employment and training opportunities. Engaging a diverse range of voices is critical to developing a new model so they hope you will participate in one of the upcoming consultations.

Community of Practice:
Together, We Are on the ‘Journey to Belonging’
|
|
The Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services ‘Journey to Belonging: Choice and Inclusion’ framework is a long-term vision where people with developmental disabilities fully belong in their communities and are supported to live the lives they choose. People, their families, and the agencies supporting them have been on this path for years, and have made much progress. But the landscape keeps changing, much so over the past two years.
Join on April 7th from 11 am - 12:30 pm for the next Community of Practice, where they will take stock of our current surroundings and revisit the values that will guide their actions moving forward.

Walk In The Woods Book Launch
|
|
Join a poetry reading, questions and answers with the audience and a book signing for Walk in the Woods, with author and photographer Marty Gervais.
Walk In The Woods is an adventure story about going out on the best and worst days of the year and taking a walk in the wetlands, forest, savanna, and prairie areas near edges of Windsor. This book caught the attention of the legendary environmentalist activist David Suzuki, who said Ojibway was a "priceless...tiny pocket of nature that reminds us, perhaps, of what once was and what could be..."
River Bookshop hosts this amazing launch. Join for a night of adventure.
March 24th 7:00 – 8:30 pm at River Bookshop - 67 Richmond Street, Amherstburg
