Cyber Safety Tips for Your Mobile Device
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month and we’ll be highlighting various topics throughout the month to help you stay safe and protected online. Since most of us use smartphones and tablets daily, it’s important to know how susceptible they are to attack and how to protect your personal and private information, and the device itself. Here are some tips:

  1. Lock your device with a PIN or password - and never leave it unprotected in public.
  2. Only install apps from trusted sources (Apple AppStore, Google Play).
  3. Keep the devices operating system up-to-date.
  4. Don’t click on links or attachments from unsolicited emails or texts.
  5. Avoid transmitting or storing sensitive information.
  6. Use Apple’s Find my iPhone or the Android Device Manager tools to help prevent loss or theft.
  7. Don’t click on links in text messages or respond to texts from unknown numbers. The most recent phishing scam sends text messages claiming you have an unpaid balance on an account.
  8. Never provide your credit card or banking information to anyone via text or email.
