SEEN AROUND CHURCH THIS WEEK

Thank you to all who have contributed to our 2023 Operating Fund Campaign – Sabbath: Rest, Rise, Serve. We have received commitments from 248 SMPC families with pledges totaling 91% of our asking budget. This is a great start!

Our middle and high schoolers enjoyed food, fun and fellowship at their small group dinners on November 13. Thank you to the Powell and Jacobus families for hosting!

On Tuesday, November 8, the Caregivers Group celebrated Donna Wilcox’s 90th birthday with a delicious chocolate cake. We hope you had an amazing birthday, Donna!

The Confirmation Retreat with Cross Missions was so much fun! The confirmands loved being together as they learned and grew in their faith. The group visited the Charlotte Prayer Room and served at Urban Farm and McCreesh Place. Enjoy more photos here.

The fourth and fifth graders had a blast at Inner Peaks on Sunday! Lots of fun, laughter, team building, and of course, climbing! Thank you to Youth Representative Lilly McAnally and parent volunteers, Alyson Vaughan and Amy Zagora, for helping us pull off this awesome event.

SMPC Handiworkers Group met this week and now looks forward to meeting weekly on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the Palmer Building, Room 104 beginning November 29. All knitters, needlepointers, quilters, cross-stitchers and crocheters (beginners, experts, and anything in between) are invited!

SMPC’s Advent tradition of member-written devotionals continues for the 18th consecutive year! Beginning Sunday, November 27 and continuing through Christmas Day, we invite you to join us in the practice of pausing daily for scripture, a brief devotional, and prayer as we journey through Advent together. The personal reflections are illustrated by our precious SMPC children. Advent Interactive Worship Services, Tuesdays during Advent, beginning November 29, 6:00-7:30 p.m. - Join us as children, youth, adults and families worship together and then participate in interactive stations to prepare our hearts and minds for the Advent season. Make a Blanket for Care Ring! SMPC has purchased 50 no-sew fleece blanket kits to donate to Care Ring to give away at their Holiday Hop for the families they serve. Pick up a blanket kit in the narthex or church office (9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Thursday) and return to church by Thursday, December 1. The kit comes with instructions. Be a Christmas Angel!

Join in our church tradition this Christmas season as we collect and deliver gifts for area families in need.


You can select gifts online or choose a gift tag from the Angel tree in the narthex beginning November 27.


Donation tags for ham dinners will also be available on the trees or monetary dinner donations of any amount can be submitted to Mary Katheryne Zagora. Please bring all gifts wrapped to the church by Thursday, December 15. Angel tags should be displayed on the OUTSIDE of the gift. Bread Donation and Delivery - Volunteers are needed every Friday morning to deliver bread donated by Panera to the Dilworth Soup Kitchen. | Sign up

Bag Lunches for Roof Above - Roof Above provides 300 lunch bags each day to help feed those in need. SMPC is committed to providing 100 bag lunches a month. Volunteers are needed. | Sign up 

Loaves and Fishes, Fridays, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., 2027 Emerywood Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210 - Loaves and Fishes is looking for some strong bodies to help them do the lifting and delivering of boxes of food from their Food Pantry to cars every Friday from 1-4 p.m. The minimum age to volunteer is 14, and closed toed shoes are required. | Contact: Lindsey Odom or Jane Royther

CHILDREN

BAM! (Bible and Music), Sunday, November 20, 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - BAM! is our Sunday evening program for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. During BAM!, children will sing, creatively engage with Bible stories, and explore various instruments in peer age groups. They will occasionally sing, play instruments, or display their creations during Sunday worship. Because we have dinner together every Sunday, children need to have a child participation form on file AND register for each Sunday they will attend.
