It's springtime, and springtime brings creation care programs. Here are two upcoming online ones you may want to check out:

National Faith + Climate Forum on April 16 from 12:00 pm – 5:15 pm ET.  Changes in our climate are increasingly impacting congregations, and clergy and lay leaders are searching for ways to be part of the solution. Deepen your understanding on how to engage your congregation in creation care, work toward just and equitable solutions, and connect with other faith leaders locally and nationally.

Happy Eastertide!

Choir is back! Rehearsals resume tonight in the choir room at 7pm. If you’d like to join us for the remainder of the choir season which runs through June 16, we would love to have you sing with us!

There are three upcoming concerts that you will not want to miss:

THIS SUNDAY 7:00pm: Monteverdi 1610 Vespers with Orchestra Nexus and the Connecticut Choral Society. This is a stunning, prayerful and dramatic musical setting of the evening vespers on Marian feasts. The Trinity sanctuary is a most fitting space for this masterful liturgical work.

NEXT FRIDAY APRIL 19 7PM: Henryk Górecki’s Symphony no. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) is presented by Orchestra Nexus, and proceeds will benefit our very own ministry, The Little Pantry!

FRIDAY, APRIL 26 7PM Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9. Oh yes, this is the one you know with the “Ode to Joy” massive chorus in the last movement. If you thought the walls of Trinity rattled on Easter, just wait til you see this one! Once again, proceeds will benefit The Little Pantry.

But wait! There’s MORE!

On Mother’s Day, May 12th, we will debut our very own WOMEN AND CHILDREN’S CHOIR with a special song presented during worship. This is open to all women and children of the church, and you need not have any singing experience or ability! We will sing “Love Will Be Our Home”, and it will be arranged to be as simple as possible. We will meet for two short rehearsals immediately after church on April 28th and May 5th. Please email me at JSisco@trinitynewtownct.org or just find me at coffee hour and let me know you’re interested. I promise this will be easy, fun, and a wonderful experience for Mother’s Day!

There are so many reasons to sing!

Church School Switcheroo!

On Sunday, 4/21, church school students are invited to witness a baptism during worship! To accommodate the viewing of the baptism we will swap the time that church school meets. Students will go to the sanctuary at 9:30 AM, instead of the church school room. They will sit with their respective families until the baptism starts. Then they will be invited to the front of the sanctuary to sit with Miss Frances and have a front row seat to the baptism. After the baptism concludes the students will go to the church school room for class. Students will forgo having communion that day and can be picked up after worship concludes.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Monteverdi Vespers 1610

April 14, 2024 - 3 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, CT

A TOWERING MASTERPIECE COMES TO CONNECTICUT

The Connecticut Choral Society is proud to announce a special presentation of “one of

the greatest works of sacred music ever written” – the MONTEVERDI VESPERS 1610

The concert Is on April 14, 2024 at 3 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, CT.

The Connecticut Choral Society will perform together with the internationally acclaimed

ORCHESTRANEXUS, Nexus Choral Artists, and renowned soloists Linda Sweetman-

Waters, organ, and Max Vladimiroff, harpsichord under the direction of Maestro Eric

Dale Knapp.

The MONTEVERDI VESPERS 1610, a masterwork of the early Baroque period, is an

extraordinary and revolutionary setting of the five psalms, hymn, and Magnificat which

make up the Vespers liturgy. It is a grand scale production with multiple choirs, soloists,

harpsichord, organ and orchestra that features majestic choruses, poignant duets, and

virtuosic solos of breathtaking beauty.

The audience can expect a grand scale treat as well. Listeners will be seated in the

center of a performance in the round, surrounded by soloists, orchestra and various

vocal ensembles, as if in a sacred embrace. At times they may hear the call of angels

from high above.

This glorious masterpiece is seldom performed in its entirety due to the scope of the

production.

This Connecticut presentation is a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience a

live performance of the unforgettable masterpiece that has captivated performers and

audiences for over four centuries.

Tickets are $55.00 and are available online or at the door, if not sold out prior to the

concert.
