| Rev. David Artman is a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Members of that denomination are expected to actively work out their theology through personal study and community worship. If that feels familiar, consider joining Cindy Anderau, Lisa Mages, Tom McMorran, and Pastor Andrea for a March Discussion series on Artman's book Grace Saves All: The Necessity of Christian Universalism. We will meet in the library on April 7th and 14th from 3:00 to 4:00. In the introduction to his book, Artman writes, "...most people don't know it's possible to be a Chrisitan and to believe grace is God's way of ultimately saving everyone. They don't know where to find biblical evidence for this understanding of grace. They don't know this way of understanding grace was common in early Christianity. They wrongly assume they can only be Christian if they believe God will not, or might not, save everyone." Artman's book challenges the idea of any person being abandoned by God. If you are intrigued by the idea that our God's loving grace will never give up until all are united to God, please join us. Books are available via Amazon, and you might want to check out some of Artman's podcasts. As always you are most welcome to join the conversation even if you haven't read the book. Feel free to email Tom McMorran, or let Rev. Andrea know if you are interested. | | On Saturday, April 27 at 12:30 pm is the next meeting of the Paint with us Group. Consider joining us - even if you bring a different type of creative project. We just chat and enjoy talking about our work and what we are doing. At the end, we have a show and tell of what we all worked on. Snacks provided. Meet in the Glover room. | |

What an Easter it was! The loft was filed with singers, brass instruments, and even a (gasp!) a band with guitars and drums! The organ created sounds even I didn’t know it was capable of, thanks to the masterful playing of Eric Knapp, and our choir was tireless in their beautifully artistic singing. Thank you to all who participated in this year’s Easter music, and thank you to those who donated so that we can continue to provide special music for our holidays. And a huge THANK YOU goes out to Tom Swetts who built a beautiful conductor’s podium for the loft so that I can more effectively direct musicians on both sides of the organ. What a gift!
We have a trio of concerts coming up at Trinity this month, and I hope you will come out and enjoy them. The first is the Monteverdi Vespers on April 13th at 7pm, followed by the Symphony no. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) by Henryk Górecki on April 19th, and then Beethoven’s 9th Symphony on April 26th- yes the one with the “Ode to Joy”!
Our musical partner, the Connecticut Choral Society, could use some help this Saturday putting up concert flyers around town. Might you be able to help? If so, swing by the church this Saturday between 10am and 4pm to pick up flyers. We will also have some at church on Sunday for you to take and distribute.
Again, thank you for your support of music at Trinity!
Jennifer
*****Choir is on a break! We will resume on Thursday April 11th at 7pm.******

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Monteverdi Vespers 1610
April 14, 2024 - 3 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, CT
A TOWERING MASTERPIECE COMES TO CONNECTICUT
The Connecticut Choral Society is proud to announce a special presentation of “one of
the greatest works of sacred music ever written” – the MONTEVERDI VESPERS 1610
The concert Is on April 14, 2024 at 3 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, CT.
The Connecticut Choral Society will perform together with the internationally acclaimed
ORCHESTRANEXUS, Nexus Choral Artists, and renowned soloists Linda Sweetman-
Waters, organ, and Max Vladimiroff, harpsichord under the direction of Maestro Eric
Dale Knapp.
The MONTEVERDI VESPERS 1610, a masterwork of the early Baroque period, is an
extraordinary and revolutionary setting of the five psalms, hymn, and Magnificat which
make up the Vespers liturgy. It is a grand scale production with multiple choirs, soloists,
harpsichord, organ and orchestra that features majestic choruses, poignant duets, and
virtuosic solos of breathtaking beauty.
The audience can expect a grand scale treat as well. Listeners will be seated in the
center of a performance in the round, surrounded by soloists, orchestra and various
vocal ensembles, as if in a sacred embrace. At times they may hear the call of angels
from high above.
This glorious masterpiece is seldom performed in its entirety due to the scope of the
production.
This Connecticut presentation is a rare opportunity for local audiences to experience a
live performance of the unforgettable masterpiece that has captivated performers and
audiences for over four centuries.
Tickets are $55.00 and are available online or at the door, if not sold out prior to the
concert.
