Our Youth Missions are active and making a difference... right now.

As a congregation of Doers, it’s been hard to give up our usual missions this past year, but our Youth Missions are in full swing this coming week. And we couldn’t be more proud.

This weekend, our 5th through 8th graders are on a mini-mission harvesting crops with our partner Harvest of Hope. The food they glean will be donated to local food banks, and with hunger up 40% in Central Virginia, this mission couldn’t be more timely.

Then starting this Sunday through July 24th, our 9th through 12th graders--and their families--will be working with Hurley Community Development to provide much needed construction and maintenance to homes in Hurley, VA. This area has been extremely hard hit by the pandemic, so our mission here is particularly valuable this year.

Because of the pandemic, organizing these missions was a much bigger task than usual. So thank you to Mary Beth and to all the teenagers and their families who committed themselves to being God’s hands in the world.
Raise your hand if you’re ready to raise your voice.

Of all the joys that being together in church again has brought, for many of us singing together is the most powerful. If you’d like to raise your voice in song, now is the time to sign up for one of our six—count ‘em SIX—musical groups.

Beginning with our Cherub Choir, which starts with Kindergarteners, to our Guitar Ensemble, there’s a choir for everyone and every age.
Cherub Choir (K to Gr 2) Children’s Choir (Gr 3 to 5)
Youth Choir (Gr 6 to 12)
West Gallery Choir Parish Choir Guitar • Ensemble

You can even improve your singing by joining our singing class, which will meet weekly at 6:15 pm on Wednesdays for six weeks beginning September 15.

If you have any questions or you’re ready to sign up,
give us a call or email. 804-355-1779, ext. 323 (Mark) or ext. 324 (Virginia). Email [email protected], [email protected]

There’s a new Emergency Pastoral Line
you can call any time.

If you or a loved one is experiencing a pastoral emergency after office hours, please call 804-762-0501. A member of the clergy will be on call at all times.

Summer Office Hours: Monday - Thursday, 9 am - 4 pm.

Come see why our 9 am service in the Garden is so popular.

Every week, more and more St. Jamesers are attending our casual outdoor service in the garden. Usually about 35 minutes, but still featuring a homily and communion (plus singing!), the service is intimate, joyful and meaningful

Many folks wear comfortable summer clothes, including (just like Jesus) sandals. Come as you are, we can’t wait to see you.
Take Jesus with you on vacation.
Or anywhere else.

No Vacation Bible School, no problem. With our “Take Out Church” you and your family can find fun and engaging ways to laugh and play together, to praise God, pray, learn God’s word, give thanks, and serve…no matter where you are, including vacation. You can pick up your “Take Out Church” at the Church every Sunday or you can contact Becky Page at [email protected] and she’ll arrange a pick up for you.
Do you like to bake and greet?
Help us say "HELLO" every Sunday.

Every Sunday throughout the summer we’ll be setting up a welcome/hello table outside the church where people can touch base and have questions answered about upcoming events, like the Fall Parish Retreat.

If you’d like to volunteer for this welcoming ministry (including baking cookies!) sign up here. No limit. Volunteer as much as you’d like.
You can help us uncover
St. James's rich history.

Do you have research or writing skills? Are you interested in the racial history of St. James’s and wondering how you can help? Our Racial Justice and Reconciliation Formation Team (RJR) is beginning Part II: Reconstruction & Post-Reconstruction (1865-1900) of our parish history project and would love you to join our ministry.

The work will include combing through records and documents in print and online from your home and/or at libraries and museums. We’ve already uncovered fascinating and revealing information about our history—and we look forward to learning even more with your help.
High schoolers and adult parishioners are welcome.

Contact Alice Tousignant if you’re interested and/or have questions.
