Our Little Roses are SUPER GIRLS!

The church’s longest running mission continues to flourish in this country with one of the poorest economies in Central America.

Over the past quarter of a century, our mission teams have built many meaningful relationships with our friends at Our Little Roses Home for Girls in the city of San Pedro Sula. An intergenerational trip to Our Little Roses Home for Girls, a refuge for girls aged 9 months to 25, whose families cannot care for them. Yearly we have returned to lead a “summer camp” for the girls, which includes games, sports, arts and crafts, bible school, cooking, science experiments, field trips to pools, the beach, retreat center, etc. We learn about Honduran culture. We develop relationships with the girls at Our Little Roses. We worship with them. We learn about ourselves. Most importantly, we provide lots of needed LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, which touches the lives of these girls as well as ours!

During the Summer of 2020 and now 2021, we sadly could not travel to Honduras for the safety of all during this ongoing world wide pandemic. We had to make adjustments to continue this beautiful relationship using technology and long distance LOVE. A core group of past mission trip attendees came together to ZOOM with the girls. We played charades, bingo, visited in smaller groups and watched the girls perform. Our Mission Committee kindly sent a generous donation to be used for our week of activities, treats, dinner and a beach trip plus lasting items like a television, bunk beds and bedding to support the girls while they go to school and quarantine together.

We PROMISE to go back when it is safe to do so!

Put Sunday, September 12th on your “Can’t Miss” list. It’s Welcome Sunday here at St. James’s and we’ll be celebrating the kick-off of the program year with a big celebration on Birch Street (between the Sanctuary and Michaux House) between the 9 am and 11:15 am services.

It’s another chance to celebrate being back together and looking forward to all the excitement that’s planned for the upcoming year. Keep watching the eChimes for details. See you there.
The Video Squad.
Where the cool kids hang out on Sundays.

Our online services have continued to be valuable and popular with our parish. And as we move into the Fall, we’ll begin to livestream the services from the chapel rather than record services earlier in the week. That’s where you come in!

We’re seeking committed individuals to join our Video Squad. You’ll get to work with our brand new cameras and state-of-the-art editing equipment to bring St. James’s into the homes--and onto the computers and phones--of St. James’s parishioners everywhere. We’ll train you and even give you easy-to-follow editing instructions.

Come work behind-the-scenes to raise St. James’s profile. To know more, reach out to Jim Goggins ([email protected] or 804-837-8773) or Jay Sandusky ([email protected]).
Come see why our 9 am service in the Garden is so popular.

Every week, more and more St. Jamesers are attending our casual outdoor service in the garden. Usually about 35 minutes, but still featuring a homily and communion (plus singing!), the service is intimate, joyful and meaningful.

Many folks wear comfortable summer clothes, including (just like Jesus) sandals. Come as you are, we can’t wait to see you.
There is Still Time
to Join a Choir this Fall

As you gear up for the Fall and the return to routines, we encourage you to consider adding a choir rehearsal to your schedule. As in all ministries, you receive so much more than you give! Fellowship, companionship, a deepening of your faith and the joy of being a part of the liturgy that’s beloved by so many St. James’s members. You--yes, YOU-- should join us in the choir loft. Everyone is welcome.

Call or email us. 804-355-1779, ext. 323 (Mark) or ext. 324 (Virginia).

Do you like to bake and greet?
Help us say "HELLO" every Sunday.

Every Sunday throughout the summer we’ll be setting up a welcome/hello table outside the church where people can touch base and have questions answered about upcoming events, like the Fall Parish Retreat.

If you’d like to volunteer for this welcoming ministry (including baking cookies!) sign up here. No limit. Volunteer as much as you’d like.
Support St. James’s without it costing you a penny.

There’s an easy way to support St. James’s while you’re doing something else. When you're shopping on Amazon (which is probably often these days) go to smile.amazon.com, instead. Once you’re there, designate St. James’s as the program you’re supporting, then a percentage of every purchase you make on Amazon Smile will go the church. Easy-peezy.
