Rep. Tenney opposes Speaker Pelosi's bill to weaken election security and integrity

This week in the House of Representatives we considered several partisan bills, including H.R. 1, the so-called "For the People Act." I voted "No" on this bill. The very policies that led to mistakes in New York's 22nd Congressional District are the same policies now being proposed for the nation by Speaker Pelosi in H.R. 1. If this bill becomes law, the errors exposed in the 22nd District's recent election won’t be the exception, they will become the new norm. The bill prohibits voter ID, prevents elections officials from maintaining accurate voting lists, and mandates other onerous requirements. At a time when we need to restore faith in our elections, H.R. 1 is an unconstitutional federal power grab that will pave the way for a system rife with errors and abuse. I recently wrote an op-ed explaining my opposition to this dangerous bill, which you can read here.
Rep. Tenney introduces amendments to address H.R. 1's flaws

I co-sponsored a package of amendments to H.R. 1 that would have significantly improved the bill and provided a principled and commonsense alternative to its overreaching federal mandates. The amendments I supported would have prohibited ballot harvesting, strengthened voter ID rules, guarded against fraud or abuse, and allowed for interstate crosschecks of voter registration. Unfortunately, House Democrats prevented these amendments from coming up for a vote on the House Floor. Read more about the amendments here.

Watch my full remarks on H.R. 1 from the House Floor:
This week I co-sponsored the RESTAURANTS Act. This bill would provide targeted and direct relief to restaurants who need our help. It has broad bipartisan support and is laser focused on helping our nation recover from this pandemic, without costly pork or payoffs to special interests. This is unlike the massive $1.9 trillion bill Congress passed last week that included payoffs to federal bureaucrats and billions in pork spending totally unrelated to COVID-19.

This week I also co-sponsored the PAWS Act. This bill would authorize a pilot program for the Department of Veterans Affairs to partner with non-profit organizations who specialize in connecting veterans and service dogs. I'm committed to ensuring New York's veterans have access to the care, services, and support they deserve and have earned.
Rep. Tenney continues advocating for Utica's Burmese refugees

Utica is home to more than 4,000 Burmese refugees and new Burmese American citizens. I recently met with a group of Burmese refugees, who fear for the lives of their loved ones back in Burma after a violent coup there last month. I spoke on the House Floor this week to share their grim accounts of the conditions in their native country and express my solidarity with the Burmese people in their quest for freedom and democracy. I will continue to advocate for the full restoration of civilian rule in Burma. Watch my remarks here.
Rep. Tenney opposes Speaker Pelosi's partisan police reform bill and reiterates her strong support for law enforcement
This week I voted against Pelosi's proposed police reform bill, H.R. 1280. This bill, like many others being proposed by Speaker Pelosi, was drafted without any bipartisan input. It would defund police programs, increase unfunded mandates, and remove good faith legal protections for law enforcement. The bill was opposed by law enforcement organizations, including the National Fraternal Order of Police as well as the Association of Police Organizations.

There are better ways to provide accountability and promote transparency in policing, which is why I cosponsored H.R. 677, the JUSTICE Act. This bill offers real solutions so law enforcement officers are better prepared to protect the communities they serve. For example, it provides $500 million for state and local law enforcement agencies to equip all officers with body cameras and improve the use of body cameras, and bans the use of chokeholds.
Community advocates meet with Rep. Tenney to raise awareness about autism and Tourette Syndrome

I met with a group of community leaders this week to hear about how Autism Spectrum Disorder affected their lives and the lives of their children. I expressed my strong support for continued funding for research into Autism Spectrum Disorder and committed to rejoining the Congressional Autism Caucus.

I also met this week with a group from the 22nd District who have been affected by Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorder. We discussed the challenges they've faced as well as the resources they need. I expressed my support for continued funding for research into these disorders and committed to also rejoining the Congressional Tourette Syndrome Caucus.
VIDEO: Reiterates repeated calls for Governor Cuomo to resign

This week I joined America's Newsroom to discuss Governor Cuomo's latest scandals. After more than a decade of corruption, the unconscionable nursing home scandal, and now multiple allegations of sexual harassment the verdict is clear: Governor Cuomo must resign. New Yorkers need better leadership. Click here to watch the full video of my interview.
Honoring the life and memory of Police Officer Joseph Corr
New Hartford Police Officer Joseph Corr gave his life in the line of duty 15 years ago last month. This week I was privileged to honor Officer Corr's life and memory. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and father. Our community will never forget his sacrifice. We thank all law enforcement officers for their service.
Leaders from Offices of the Aging Across NY22 meet with Rep. Tenney to discuss issues impacting senior citizens
Seniors have suffered so much as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. This week I met with local leaders from Offices of the Aging across the 22nd District to talk about issues impacting seniors. I thanked these leaders for their tireless efforts to support seniors in our community and discussed ways to increase resources for them. Their insights were invaluable and I will take their feedback with me to Congress as I work to improve the quality of care our seniors receive. One issue we discussed was the importance of increasing seniors' access to technology and training to ensure they can access vital healthcare information online, especially related to the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccinations.
It's not too late to apply for a spring internship at one of my three offices in Washington, Utica, or Binghamton. We are looking for exceptional young leaders who are interested in learning more about the legislative process and serving their community. Interested candidates should email their resume and cover letter to [email protected].
