“This Week at OPICA”

First Days of Summer

The first day of summer, also known as the summer solstice.  The longest day of summer 2025 will be Friday, June 20th. This day marks the summer solstice, which is the day when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted most directly towards the sun, resulting in the most daylight hours of the year.

Symptoms of dementia like confusion, agitation, and sundowning can be exaccerbated by the changes in light, temperature, and rountine. However, with proper precautions and care, the impact can be minimized.

Updated Flu - Covid - RSV Info

Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious. Infants and older adults are more likely to develop severe RSV and need hospitalization. Vaccines are available to protect older adults from severe RSV. Vaccines for pregnant people or monoclonal antibody products are available to protect infants and young children from severe RSV.

Getting an annual flu vaccine reduces the severity and spread of respiratory illness.

This is more important than ever because flu, RSV, and Covid-19 are all circulating during the fall and winter seasons.

Flu vaccination is especially important for adults 65 years and older, who account for most hospitalizations and deaths from flu – and from Covid-19.
