Daily routines can be helpful for both you — the caregiver — and the person living with Alzheimer's. A planned day allows you to spend less time trying to figure out what to do, and more time on activities that provide meaning and enjoyment.
Do people with dementia have routines?
Why Routine is Important for Dementia
Since routines are stored in long-term memory and dementia usually affects short-term memory first, routines often remain accessible even into the middle stages of disease. Because they struggle with short-term memory loss, people living with dementia find it difficult to learn new ways of doing things.

Sometimes the best medicine is...
Keep Your Cool in Hot Weather!
STAYING HYDRATED - STAYING COOL -
INDOOR ACTIVITIES
|
|
|
Keep Drinking!
Drink plenty of fluids. To optimize the body’s cooling mechanisms, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water or other caffeine-free liquids. Avoid caffeinated drinks because they can act as a diuretic, depleting the body of important fluids. Be sure to drink fluids with every meal and throughout the day; do not wait until you are thirsty. Dehydration may be difficult to notice in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. Be on the lookout for increased fatigue, dry mouth, headache, and/or decreased urinary output.
