In better news: Pizza Luce Block Party is this weekend (summer fun), the weather is beautiful (not unbearably hot), and the Twins are in town all weekend. The weekend is looking great.

Be on the lookout for an exciting class announcement. Next up.. Cognac & Blues.

STAFF PICKS
Doug's Pick

Pares Balta, Calcari, Penedes 2017 - $17.99

This wine is refreshing, incredibly mineral, and made 100% Xarel-lo from the Penedes region of Spain. I was fortunate to visit this winery a couple months back and was completely blown away by the quality of their wines and their dedication to sustainable/biodynamic agriculture. All the wines of Pares Balta are worth seeking out and at this price, this cuvee is a great place to start.
Madison's Pick

Martha Stoumen, Nero D'Avola, Mendocino County 2017 - $46.99

This is a name to watch in the California wine scene: Stoumen released her first vintage in 2017 - 900 cases that sold out immediately. 434 Some of it has found its way here, lucky for us. Stoumen leases the vineyards that go into this wine, farming them organically. Winemaking is skillfully minimal intervention - the wines are clean, bright, and beautiful. Stoumen's apprenticeship in Italy at COS informs the style of this Nero - its light, airy and elegant. This would definitely be the most interesting wine at a dinner party and certainly a candidate for the best burger pairing ever.
Patti's Pick

Wildflower Sauvignon Blanc, Hawkes Bay 2017 - $15.99

Need something refreshing to remind you that it's still summer? This wine will punch you in the kisser with sunshine! Not a fan of Sauvignon Blanc?...we dare you to hate on this wine. It's fresh with bright acidity, dry but has ripe green fruits on the palate, so basically it's what you want on a hot day in August. Plus the label is as pretty as the wine!
Patrick's Pick

Francois Cazin, Cour-Cheverny, Touraine, Loire 2017 - $19.99

The Loire Valley's Cour-Cheverny appellation is exclusively for Romorantin, an ancient varietal native to the area that was nearing extinction in the 1970s. Winemaker Francois Cazin is one the leading reasons this grape has survived.
His 2017 Romorantin from the limestone and clay soils balances racy minerality with plump apricot fruit, showing exceptional purity and freshness. This is a true wine of "somewhere-ness" (new hipster juice-speak for Terroir? LOL), as a friend once said of the best expression of wine. Only from Cour-Cheverny could you enjoy this rare opportunity.
David's Pick

Ardosia Vinho Branco, Portugal - $19.99

The summer of 2019 might be speeding to a close but there's still time to fall in love with (at least) one more summery white wine. This wine hails from Tejo in central Portugal and contains two prominent local white varietals. Fernao Pires provides lush ripe fruit, a silky palette and perfumed aromatics. Arinto provides the zesty bright finish. The balance of the two is what really makes this wine unique and versatile. Let's keep this summer train rolling.
