Dear FirstChurch,

In April, Dr. Stoker outlined a clear response to the decisions made at the 2019 Called General Conference and the subsequent Judicial Council rulings. Part of that response was to provide substantive educational and advocacy programming on how our stand of “ALL Means ALL” allows us to re-imagine what being a faith community really means. This reinforces our commitment to the theology of the Open Table. We are called to be welcoming to all, yet also work from the inside out to tear down structures that expose anyone to hurt, harm or hate.

In these past few months, your clergy and staff have been working diligently to bring that programming to fruition, so we can continue to live out this response, and further live in to 'This is FirstChurch'.

Beginning Sept. 9 and carrying throughout the rest of the fall, we will introduce a new advocacy series titled Beyond Boundaries. In this series, we will hear from experts working on the front lines for LGBTQ+, racial equity, mental health, immigration and homelessness. These seminars will allow us to better understand these issues, and re-think how we can treat, support and advocate for all our neighbors. (Click the image to open a larger version.)

I encourage you now to make time to attend these sessions as your schedule allows. Not only will you be educating yourself on important issues in our society, you will also be working to further the mission of FirstChurch as a place who cares for all, and a community who strongly advocates for the worth and dignity of all people.
If you have thoughts or questions on this series, I'd love to hear from you .

Thank you in advance for your time, willingness to learn and your dedication to FirstChurch. It is a pleasure to serve among you as, together, we represent the Open Table for the world.

Grace and Peace,

Rev. Holly G. Bandel
