Central State University’s scenic campus came alive with the sights and sounds of move-in days, held on Aug. 6-7 and 9-10. As new and returning Marauders arrived, they were greeted with open arms, ushering in a new academic year filled with promise, purpose, and a profound sense of belonging.

Empowering communities: Student's initiative to provide professional attire in his hometown
Cameron Baldwin, a high-achieving Honors College student at Central State University, has taken a remarkable step to uplift his community in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Amid his busy schedule as a double major in Political Science and Communications and aiming to open his own law firm one day, Baldwin launched a clothing drive this summer to provide suits and professional attire to those in need. Community Health Worker Program certified by Ohio State Board of Nursing
Central State University’s Community Health Worker (CHW) Program, a pivotal initiative in enhancing community wellness, has reached a significant milestone with its recent certification by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Central State University: Championing community health at the African American Wellness Walk
Central State University, Ohio’s only public Historically Black College and University (HBCU), has long been a beacon of education, empowerment, and community engagement. This year, the University is proudly participating in the African American Wellness Walk, an event that underscores our commitment to health and wellness, particularly within African American communities.
This year’s walk/run will be a hybrid event, offering a virtual option ongoing through Aug. 17 and an in-person gathering at 8 a.m. Aug. 17 at Island Park, 101 E. Helena St., Dayton. Sign up now

University Institute introduces 'Toward a Brighter Future: Key strategies for Central State University improvement | |
Central State University faculty and staff came together for University Institute on Aug. 8 to officially launch the 2024-25 academic year in an exciting time of enhancements of its service to students and other stakeholders.
In welcoming attendees, Dr. Morakinyo A.O. Kuti, the 10th President of Central State, shared his excitement for the coming year. He also gave the State of the University address, highlighting the opportunities that lie ahead. (See related story at right.)

Caye Elmore: Interim Vice President, Administration and Finance, and CFO
We are excited to welcome Caye Elmore as the interim vice president for Administration and Finance and chief financial officer (CFO). With 34 years of experience in higher education administration across Ohio, Elmore is a seasoned executive with deep expertise in higher education finance. Her extensive background includes roles at Central State University and Wright State University, where she led initiatives in strategic planning, budgeting, space management, and more.
Elmore is eager to rejoin the Central State University family during this transitional period, where her leadership will be invaluable in guiding our financial strategies and operations.

LaQuita Miller: Chief of Staff to the President
Central State University is proud to welcome back alumna LaQuita Miller, ’06, as the chief of staff to the President. Miller is a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a distinguished career in executive leadership, having served in pivotal roles at Microsoft and Paycor. Her experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and executive support will be instrumental in advancing the University's mission.
Miller holds a juris doctorate from the University of Dayton, a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Central State University. Her passion for community service and youth empowerment is reflected in her active roles with several organizations, including the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative and Matthew 25 Ministries.

Dr. Jose Toledo: Vice President, Research and Economic Development, and Director, 1890 Land-Grant Programs
We are delighted to introduce Dr. Jose Ulises Toledo as the new vice president for Research and Economic Development and director of 1890 Land-Grant Programs. Toledo comes to Central State with a distinguished career in research administration, most recently serving as the vice chancellor for Research at Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
Toledo's research interests include food science, nutrition, plant genomics, and the economic impact of innovations. In his new role, he will oversee the University's research initiative, foster partnerships for economic development, and lead the 1890 Land-Grant Programs, continuing his legacy of promoting impactful research and innovation.

Dr. Alvin E. Level: Director of Bands and Assistant Professor
Central State University is thrilled to announce the selection of Dr. Alvin E. Level as the new director of Bands and an assistant professor. Level, a proud alumnus of Central State, returns to his alma mater with an impressive background in music education and band leadership. His career includes significant roles in public schools and higher education, where he developed award-winning music programs and led bands to national recognition.
Level's return marks a new chapter for the Invincible Marching Marauders as he brings a vibrant vision and commitment to excellence that will continue to inspire and lead our band program. His leadership will ensure that our music program remains a cornerstone of pride and achievement for the University.
