Beyond the Walls - Project Updates

In one of last year’s Doug Talks, I wrote about a local non-profit that I am pleased to support. Beyond the Walls (BTW) partners with Market Street Mission and Family Promise in Morris County. These organizations are dedicated to changing the lives of those who are homeless or struggling with poverty, food insecurity or addiction. BTW also provides funding and labor for many projects in South Dakota and Guatemala. These include installing wells for clean water, building schools, sponsoring students to raise high school graduation rates, and building and renovating homes to create permanent housing for local residents.

Looking ahead to 2024, BTW is working with several inner-city and native American non-profits to establish new partnerships in the US. The organization continues to grow every year because of the generous donations and volunteers that support this cause.

I’m excited to announce a BTW volunteer will sponsor a 100% matching donation program through December 31, 2023. Beyond The Walls is a non-profit 501(c)(3), EIN#208601689, and all of your donations are 100% tax deductible. If you are interested in helping our cause, any donation is welcome. BTW also qualifies for most employer matching programs.

The Beyond the Walls team provides vision exams for locals in Chiqumula, Guatemala.

The team dispenses prescription eyeglasses to those who can’t afford them or are unable to travel to an optician. BTW members are trained through the Rosani Lens Project. www.rosanilensproject.org

This home was built to help a single mother and her two small children get out of their extremely poor living conditions.
The BTW team completed this home for a local pastor and his family, who were living in a church with a leaking roof (see photo below).

BTW hires local masons to pour the foundation and walls. Then the BTW team completes the rest of the construction work.
This is the pastor’s previous home in an old church. He and his family lived here for years before BTW built their new home.

Machinery and building supplies are limited here. All the concrete is mixed with shovels and carried in five-gallon buckets.
