Get to know our County Cultural Councils

SCFD’s County Cultural Councils make funding recommendations for annual SCFD funds in each of the district’s partner counties. All members are local volunteers appointed by the county’s commissioners or city councils. Learn more here.

SCFD Board of Directors News

A board of directors governs the SCFD with representation from district member counties Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson and four governor's appointees. The board oversees district funding and ensures the district is running the way voters intended. The board meets eight times a year and all meetings are open to the public.

Farewell to Board Member Jake Zambrano

We’d like to extend a fond farewell to SCFD board member, Jake Zambrano. Jake has served two terms on SCFD’s board, most recently as the Arapahoe County board appointee from February 2021 to February 2024.

“Jake’s service to the SCFD Board of Directors has been invaluable,” said Board Chair Jacki Cooper Melmed, “we have no doubt he will continue to be a staunch champion of SCFD and the cultural sector in the future.”

Jake has specialized in state government relations, public affairs, grassroots advocacy, and political campaign management for over 15 years. Jake is passionate about the Denver metro community and the arts, particularly local theatre. He is a patron of theatre companies both at home in Arapahoe County and across the district, such as the Aurora Fox Arts Center and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.

“Jake has been a huge advocate for the district, “said SCFD Executive Director, Deborah Jordy, “He is a big picture-thinker and has a keen understanding of the district in its totality. We deeply appreciate his service on the board over the years.”

Thank you, Jake!

We Fund Culture

Thanks to the voters and residents of the seven-county metro area, SCFD has come a long way in its more than 35 years of existence. SCFD is the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, a tax collected and distributed to more than 300 cultural organizations in our seven-county Denver metro region including Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties. Just one penny on every $10 spent in the district creates vibrancy for us individually and collectively.
