Dear Friends,
I am very pleased to announce Matthew Swift Gallery's first solo exhibition of 2023: Gabrielle Barzaghi's Horse Opera will open with a reception for the artist on Saturday, June 24, 5–7pm, and will be on view through Monday, July 31.
Horse Opera is Barzaghi's fourth solo exhibition at the Gallery, and we are thrilled again to present a significant new body of her work comprising more than a dozen new drawings.
The title piece shown below and four other drawings are major new works having dimensions about 50 x 70 inches.

Matthew Swift Gallery was founded with the name Trident Gallery in April 2013 and first opened its doors four months later in August. This year as Gloucester celebrates the 400th year of its formal founding, we are celebrating our 10th year.
We began the year in an unusual way: two weeks in, we moved completely out of our space to accommodate a major building maintenance project. As that project proceeded, we attended the Art Wynwood fair in Miami. Moving back in was a slow process, interrupted by attending a second fair in south Florida at the end of March, Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary.

I've called the first exhibition of the year Up to Eleven ( with a nod to the famous scene in the movie Spinal Tap). It features clusters of six or more works each by Peter Lyons, Erma Wheeler, Winston Boyer, and Aron Leaman, complemented by single works by several other artists. Up to Eleven will be on view through Monday, June 19.
To celebrate the passage of our eleventh year, we are serving cookies and beverages in the Gallery through the month of June (at least!).

I am also very pleased to announce that Matthew Swift Gallery will be exhibiting eleven oil paintings by Peter Lyons at the Hamptons Fine Art Fair in Southampton NY from July 13–16, 2023. We look forward to this fair, which has grown considerably since we last participated over Labor Day Weekend in 2021.

Matthew Swift Gallery is partners with
Art Money, a uniquely helpful organization which allows collectors to enjoy new artworks immediately and pay over time, while the artist gets paid up front.
The process is simple. Collectors take the art home and then make 10 payments over 10 months with no interest.
The art world moves slowly. Prices on art from Matthew Swift Gallery normally do not change once appropriate pricing has been determined. But the wider world is changing quickly, and lately, dollars are buying less for artists and small businesses. If the trend continues, art prices everywhere will inevitably rise. Paying for acquisitions over time with Art Money is all the more sensible in these conditions.

Matthew Swift Gallery maintains online storefronts on the two premier platforms for fine art, Artsy.net and 1stDibs.com.
While they are primarily a means for collectors without an existing relationship with Matthew Swift Gallery to discover and explore its offerings, each platform has much to offer everyone who chooses to explore them.
