TALK OF THE MONTH:
Tall Fescue Cool Season Grass:
Tall Fescue grass is native to Europe and was introduced into the US in the early 1800βs. Itβs a cool-season grass that grows strongly in the Fall and Spring, slowing down and stopping growth in warm summer months. Tall Fescue is the only turf grass in Georgia that provides year round green color not going dormant during the winter months. Tall Fescue grasses are a handsome dark green color, with a medium texture.
Fescue is the most shade-tolerant of the turf grasses requiring only 3-4 hours of sun. But keep in mind, all turf grasses need some sun to survive. It requires more water in the Summer than warm-season grasses. It needs frequent mowing in the Fall and Spring, as those seasons provide optimal growing conditions.
Fall is the perfect time for aerating and overseeding you existing Fescue. Fall and Winter are the best seasons to install Fescue sod.
Retaining walls:
A retaining wall serves to keep soil in place. This mostly applies to landscapes featuring small hills where these walls act as a necessary barrier to prevent the soil from sliding forward in a landslide. Strategically adding retaining walls to your sloped yard can direct rain and irrigation where you want it to go. They help your yard drain safely, preventing costly erosion from hurting your foundation and landscaping. With grading, they are great to terrace your slopped lawn and give you more outdoor space to enjoy.
Retaining walls can be made of wood, stone, or blocks, depending on the look and style you want for your yard.
Retaining wall drainage!!!!
We often receive calls of homeowners who bought a new home, and the previous owner had a retaining wall installed without proper drainage, and now their great looking wall is now falling down.
Retaining wall drainage is critical. It ensures water to not collect behind the wall, causing it to fail. A quality drainage system collects and redirects rainwater away from the wall. It decreases pressure on the soil around the foundation and within the wall itself, reducing erosion and settlement.
