One of the great honors serving as the Executive Director of The Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers is to help support pregnant and parenting teens at The Sharon Abrams Teen Parent School Program . These young parents are some of the most courageous, hard-working and hopeful young people that I know. The mission of the Maine Children’s Home is to build and strengthen families and their children, instilling hope for the future and a better quality of life.  The Sharon Abrams Teen Parent School Program is a prime example of our mission in action.
The   Sharon Abrams Teen Parent School Program at The Maine Children’s Home is an alternative high school program for pregnant and parenting teens that we operate in partnership with the Waterville school district, AOS #92. Our school program has been in existence since 1974 and has supported more than 1,000 teen parents. The program provides prenatal and parenting instruction along with academic and life skills courses. The unique wraparound approach of the Teen Parent School Program opens many doors to learning, support, encouragement and vital new parenting tools to prepare for a healthy pregnancy & childbirth, as well as an effective education that meets their schedule and learning goals to earn a Waterville High School Diploma. The teen parents juggle many competing demands every morning to get themselves and their infants fed, dressed and prepared for a full day of learning at The Children’s Place Early Care and Education Center for the infants and to the Teen Parent School for the parents.
On September 20 th we held our annual fundraiser, Celebrating Resilience , to highlight the success of the Sharon Abrams Teen Parent School and its students. We heard from panelists who were both graduates and current students of the Program and each highlighted that they did not know where they would be without the powerful support, encouragement and assistance they have received from the Maine Children's Home. We are so proud of the teen parents and the great care to assist them and their children. They are strengthened because of hundreds of supporters each year. Thank you for your support in making life better for the teen parents and their precious children.

In sincere gratitude,
