CELEBRATE FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY

Filipino American History Month is celebrated in October each year to commemorate the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental U.S. Redwood City is is honoring the incredible contributions of Filipino Americans to our community this month and next. At the October 2 City Council meeting, Redwood City City Council recognized Filipino American History Month with a proclamation to the San Mateo County Filipino Mental Health Initiative. Read the proclamation here.

RCPL is celebrating with two special performances! Kariktan Dance Company will perform at Downtown Library on Saturday, November 4 at 3:30pm and at Redwood Shores Branch Library on Saturday, November 18 at 11am. Kariktan Dance Company promotes Philippine Culture through dance and music. It is sure to be an amazing show! Find more information here.

If you'd like to celebrate more, we have recommended literary reads written by Filipino American authors. This reading list was inspired by San Mateo County Poet Laureate and Filipino American Poet, Aileen Cassinetto.

United Against Hate Week is November 12-18 and we hope you can join us for a week of community building. United Against Hate Week is a call for local civic action to stop the hate and implicit biases that are a dangerous threat to the safety and civility of our neighborhoods, towns and cities.

Our programs include Meet Your Neighbors, mindfulness sessions, storytimes, and so much more. Register for author talks presented by the Peninsula Library System here.
