October 2019 at Place des Arts
Home to our arts community
First of all, I would like to say hello! I am Aurora, the new Communications Coordinator at Place des Arts.

A bit about myself, I am a marketing and communications professional with experience working at non-for-profits including a theatre company in Ottawa and the Vancouver Writers Fest. I moved out to the coast to pursue a degree in Publishing and fell in love with everything this province has to offer, including a vibrant and colourful arts community.

When I found out about this position I felt it was an amazing opportunity to combine my experience with my passion for art and education. The arts provide people with an amazing outlet to express themselves in a variety of ways and better themselves, no matter their age.

I am thrilled to introduce myself to the Place des Arts community as this has quickly become my second home with all the amazing events, exhibits, classes and people this wonderful organization has to offer.

This newsletter will cover the many incredible events we have this season including a very special classic concert, a profile on an incredible piano virtuoso, details on our Online Auction and much more.

Best regards,
Aurora van Roon
Communications Coordinator

Have you ever seen or heard music performed where the clarinet shrinks down to just the mouthpiece?

To launch our 2019/2020 classic concert series we have a performance of Immer Kleiner-Always Smaller on October 19 at 7:00 pm.

As a part of our year of humour, this intriguing concert explores clarinet and piano repertoire that is off the beaten path, with an accent on lightheartedness.

Played by  Trang-Tina Nguyen (a Place des Arts faculty member) on piano and Francois Houle on clarinet, the works are highly entertaining, offering a glimpse into the lighter side of classical music. Hear works by Reissiger, Saint-Saëns, Schreiner, Gershwin, D'Rivera, Milhaud and Rimsky-Korsakov - all great composers with a twisted sense of humour!

what's funny?

I inherited a painting and a violin, which turned out to be a Rembrandt and a Stradivarius. Unfortunately, Rembrandt made awful violins and Stradivarius was a terrible painter.
