Dear  ,

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us last Friday for our Virtual Awards Breakfast Honoring Dr. Camara Jones. It was an inspiring morning that helped us replenish our energy and sense of purpose as we brace for the many challenges ahead.

I am delighted to say that we met our goal to raise $50,000 through this event, thanks to a combination of generous sponsors and individual donors -- including a gap-closing, dollar-for-dollar match from MPHA's Board of Directors at the end.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped us reach this goal--THANK YOU!

For those of you who could not attend, we invite you to watch the recording. In addition to the video, many people have asked us for the songs played before and after the speakers. Dr. Jones herself requested Nina Simone and Labi Siffre, so please credit her for the music!

Nina Simone: Feeling Good | Backlash Blues
Here Comes the Sun | Young Gifted & Black
Labi Siffre:     Something Inside So Strong

As I listened to the thoughtful and hopeful remarks from both Dr. Camara Jones and Dr. David Satcher, I felt tremendous gratitude. As Dr. Satcher said, Camara Jones is truly a public health leader for these difficult times, because:
    • She cares
    • She understands the challenges we face
    • She has the courage to speak out
    • She continues to persevere
I know many of you share my devastation at the recent news regarding the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This adds to the sense of urgency many of us feel, as we work to address multiple overlapping public health crises and threats to our nation's democratic process.

If you joined us for MPHA's Virtual Breakfast last Friday, I hope you can still feel the inspiration we shared that morning. For those who could not attend, I hope you can glean some inspiration by watching this recording. Inspiration provides resources for resilience. Responding to what we are facing requires all of our resilience -- as well as our commitment and joint action.

As I said last Friday, there has never been a more important time to work collectively towards health equity. Together, we are making a real and lasting difference.

Warmly,
Carlene Pavlos
Executive Director

P.S.  Thank you also to the many Sponsors of this Virtual Breakfast!
