Red Hots Burlesque is all about outrageous women. And our legend this week had outrageous written all over her!
EVELYN WEST
Known as her nicknames "$50,000 Treasure Chest" and "The Hubba Hubba Girl," burlesque legend Evelyn West was arguably the most well endowed woman to take the stage anytime in the mid-'40s through her retirement in the '60s. Well, at least West would argue that point. One of the most photographed pin ups alongside Bettie Page, West had a nose for getting in the news. The story goes that she once pelted rival Anita Ekberg with a tomato when Ekberg attempted leaving a strip club while Ms. West was performing. After World War II Ms. West worked for the President Follies Theater in San Francisco. When she was near 60, San Francisco's Mitchell Brothers extended an invitation for her to perform in their clubs as they had fellow legends Tempest Storm and Blaze Starr, but West declined, enjoying her retirement in Florida. West passed away in 2004.

About our Debuts:
Bettina May is a New York-based pin-up model and burlesque performer. In the autumn of 2012 she was awarded the first ever green card from the USA based on her outstanding ability in her field. She started her career in 2003, and since then has performed internationally on stages in Paris, London, Berlin and Lisbon, as well as touring nationally for the past 3 years. She has been featured on The Real Housewives of NYC, and she has also performed for Brooke Shields, Kanye West, Jude Law, and more. She is also an in-demand performer for corporate clients like Patron, Dos Equis, Harley Davidson and MTV. Lily Fawn is one half of the award winning, unstoppable vaudeville-rock duo, Hank Pine and Lily Fawn, formed 2005, from Fantasy Island - Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Many have claimed that this drum poundin', saw playin', tap dancin', ukulele strumin', trumpet blowin' singer and song writer fell out of a lullaby fairytale from 1923.
Lily's little voice and earnest delivery sounds like a long lost relative of Julie Cruz (twin peaks), Johanna Newsome or Blossom Dearie . Lily Fawn, whom you may find drinking bootleg gin and swinging on chandeliers, has musical roots in punk rock but her heart was born for jazz and musical saw playing this side of Marlene Dietrich. www.hankandlilymusic.com www.lilyfawnmusic.com
Alethal Weapon showcases chanteuse burlesque from sultry and sassy to downright sinful! Her soul shaking voice is complemented by unique arrangements amid performance art and bodacious tata's to cut you off at the knees - she didn't get that name Alethal Weapon cuz she's gentle and demure folks, this chick's big and bad ass! Though this is her Red Hots and SF debut, she's performed with Hubba Hubba Revue, Burlesque Moulin, & at First Friday Follies over in the East Bay. She is also the producer of HHR's semi-annual Alethal Weapon's Chanteuse Showcase bringing together the hottest chanteuse burlesquers of the Bay together on one stage and always climaxing with her raunchy choir. Your Feature this Month! Miss Balla Fire, cofounder of Sin Sisters Burlesque in Santa Cruz, has left a swath of creative destruction on the burlesque landscape since 2005, a natural progression from the trail of broken hearts and stolen souls from her more vernal and carefree days. Getting her start in the Mojave desert, she quickly learned that the best way to survive was to enter the body of her host organism, quietly feed off of it, reproduce, and then move on once she destroyed it. "Had I known back then how it worked," she was once heard remarking, "I would do it all over again... only a lot sooner."
Once she began performing, this ingrained pattern of aggressive invasion gave her the social grace to rapidly become one of the premier creative leads in the Bay Area's rich burlesque scene. Featuring regularly as one of the Hubba Hubba Revue's brightest stars, she has also stolen souls (and pants) at Red Hots Burlesque, Little Minsky's, Barbary Coast Burlesque, and several other Bay Area shows.
In her hometown of Santa Cruz, the Sin Sisters reign supreme with one of the biggest and most elegant monthly burlesque shows in the country, on the second Saturday of each month. Learn how to tantalize, taunt, and tease with your gloves. Join the notorious burlesque mistress La Chica Boom and learn the art of glove removal. Infuse character, direct the audience, and create magic just by removing your gloves! An array of colorful satin gloves are provided. Open to all. Pre-registration is required.
**About this teacher: La Chica Boom is a performance artist, ecdysiast, and community organizer that explores Chican@ iconography, issues of race, gender and sexuality. Through the practice of ethnic drag, alternative dance, theatre, performance art, neo-burlesque, and clowning, La Chica Boom provides a biting satire that points to contemporary and historical escandalos. In addition to touring North America as a solo performer and with the Fluffgirl Vaudeville and Burlesque Roadshow, she is the founder and producer of Kaleidoscope, An Annual National People of Color Cabaret, the first national event dedicated to cabaret and neo-burlesque performers of color in the U.S. Some of the venues where she has been featured include: The Yerba Buena Arts Museum (SF), Corio (NYC), One Eyed Jacks (NOLA), MondoHomo (ATL), The Moisture Festival (SEA), Burlesque Hall of Fame (Las Vegas), Tease-o-Rama (SF), and The Vancouver Queer Film Festival (CAN).
