West Haven Veterans Museum & Learning Center
The mission of the Museum is to honor the men and women who served our State and Country during times of conflict and natural disasters. Our goal is to obtain and preserve artifacts that provide a snapshot of what life was like for these Patriots from Connecticut. Our staff is dedicated to providing education and resources to future generations as to how our fighting men and women lived and survived while serving our country. As a non-profit organization, we take pride in the fact that our museum is run by retired Veterans that have served their country proudly and local volunteers. By sharing their unique experiences, Veterans provide our visitors a diverse perspective that can be applicable to current real-life situations. Their experiences help young people with confidence building, problem-solving, analytical thinking, and the development of 21st-century skills.

Is Cleaning Your Home Making You Sick?

It’s Springtime and people are cleaning out their closets and freshening up the inside of their home after being shut in over the winter. This seems refreshing, but the big question is; What are you cleaning with? Many of the products sold in the stores may smell nice, but actually contain many harmful substances such as formaldehyde, chloroform and benzene which are commonly found in household products for cleaning as well as freshening the air.

Our bodies were made to be able to filter toxins from our nose and throat, digestive tract, and the liver and kidneys. So, you may be thinking your body has you covered...

15th and Final Mackenzie's Beach Clean Up

This annual event is in its 15th and final year. It was started by then 4 year old
Mackenzie when she noticed that the beaches were dirty and she wanted to clean the
trash. Currently, Mackenzie is an environmental fellow at Stetson University in Deland, Florida.

This year’s clean-up is Saturday, May 6, from 10 AM to 2 PM. We will have two
check-in tables. One at Walnut Beach and one at Silver Sands State Park in Milford. The
clean-up is co-sponsored by The clean earth project, Garbo Grabber, the Walnut Beach
Association and the Stratford Home Depot. As always cleaning supplies will be provided
and there will be free ice cream for the first 100 volunteers compliments of Walnut
Beach Creamery.
