Entrepreneurship is surging at the University of Georgia, fueled by an Innovation District initiative. During this event, Kyle Tschepikow, UGA’s Director for Strategy and Innovation, and Ian Biggs, UGA’s Director for Innovation District Programming and Startups, will talk about the future of the Innovation District and highlight exciting projects and programs that are driving startup activity.

This event will be held at the UGA Innovation Hub, the centerpiece of the University of Georgia's Innovation District. It offers a large, flexible open space for meetings and events, offices for UGA startup ventures, a makerspace, and meeting rooms for 1x1 support for faculty, student and staff entrepreneurs.

Approximately 400 young adults age out of foster care each year. Many more experience homelessness. The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce is a drop-off location for baskets to supply young adults, who have aged out of the foster care system or who are faced with homelessness or housing insecurity, with basic needs and supplies.

  • General Time is a 35 acre development that is transforming an old clock factory into a new social and commercial hub for Athens, Georgia.
  • This spring, rezoning into planned development was completed unanimously
  • Terrapin Beer Co. is active in their warehouse space on the north end of the property, with Wayfair right next door, now on target to open with 300+ Athens employees in 2022. 
  • Nearby, the machine sheds can be quickly readied for a local cafe, bakery, restaurant, or bike shop, with access to the one-mile mountain bike skills loop - coming this summer - and eventual connection to the Greenway. Special thanks to the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association

  • General Time has contracted a local artist to create a new mural - with the help of youth from around the community - that will tell the story of the clock factory as it was and the property’s resurrection and future growth.

Synovus Names Jody Patton Division
CEO and Promotes John Tebeau!

Synovus has appointed Jody Patton as CEO of its Northeast Georgia Division, effective July 1. Patton has served as Synovus’ Augusta market executive since January 2018. “Jody is an exceptional banker, with a wealth of knowledge of industries and economic development opportunities in Northeast Georgia,” said Wayne Akins, Synovus chief community banking officer.

Synovus also appointed John Tebeau as market executive for the Athens area. Tebeau joined Synovus in 1997 after graduating from The University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. He has also served in numerous leadership capacities in a variety of organizations including The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, The Boys of Girls Club of Athens, and Athens Area Homebuilders Association.

MedLink Celebrates Community Health Center Week

MedLink has been proudly serving NEGA since 1976. As a federally qualified health center, they are able to offer uninsured and underinsured patients a sliding fee scale. No one is denied services due to a lack of income of insurance status. Many of their employees are bilingual, eliminating the language barrier and providing a more welcoming environment for all cultures.

Show your support for libraries this September by partnering with Athens-Clarke County Library for Library Card Sign Up Month. Sign up today to participate in "Get Library Carded!" and pledge to offer a discount or promotion of your choice to customers who present a library card at your business during the month of September. Participating businesses will be recognized with signage in the library (did you know Athens-Clarke County libraries see an average 25,000 visitors every month?), online at athenslibrary.org and on the libraries' social media.
