New Worship Series: Unscripted: Daring a "Yes...And" Life

Sermon: Unscripted: Two Steps Forward, One Back

Scripture: Genesis 12:1-9

Ten years ago, Pastor Kim’s candidating sermon introduced a concept borrowed from the world of improv theater: the rule of "Yes, and..." In improv, when your partner hands you an unexpected plot twist, you don't deny it. You accept it ("Yes"), and you build on it ("And..."). That is not just good theater; it is the essence of a faithful, courageous life with God.

As we enter these final weeks of our ministry together, we all (Pastor Kim and the congregation) find ourselves standing before the unknown, the unexpected, and the unscripted. It is natural to feel the weight of change, but scripture reminds us that God has always called the faithful to step out without a script. From Abraham and Sarah walking a crooked path, to Jeremiah buying a field in a war zone, to the early church learning to collaborate as one body, faith has always been about holy risk-taking.

Join us each Sunday from August 23 through September 27 as we look back at where we've been, honor the foundation we've built, and dare to say "Yes, and..." to the next beautiful scene God is writing for our congregation and for each of us.

Chancel Choir Practice - September 3

Our Chancel Choir is a non auditioned choir that is supported by the wonderful voices of our choral interns. All are welcome to add their voice as we lead the congregation in giving praise to God.

Gathering of Spirits - September 22

Join us at 5:45 pm at Windsor Browns for a time when our spirits encounter God’s Spirit in spirited discussion on wide ranging topics.

Please pray for Harvey Taylor who has been at the VA Hospital, but is hoping to be released home soon. 

Please pray for the Reverend Robin Clardy following the death of her husband Darrell on Thursday, July 30. Memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 5 at 11am at First Presbyterian Church of Fullerton.

Please pray for those in hospice: Cathie Ford (Lynn Budzar’s sister).

Please pray for those in treatment for cancer: Judy Jordan, Catherine Morris, Bill Anderson (Bruce Anderson's brother), Jennifer Yamaguchi (Susan Wei’s friend), Victor Lavarreda (Karen’s husband), Adriana Dunner (Tracy Ramont's friend), Kim Emery (former AFPC member).
