We Are the Church!

Vocal Mixology (VMX) held their summer concert in our sanctuary. John and Nikki Saylor are members of this group who presented a delightful program "Barbershop on Broadway."

Because Abbott was ill, Pastor Kim ended up running sound (and deepening her appreciation of the work that Abbott and Richard do every week). Mellody, who attended the concert snapped a photo and sent it with this observation:

Our pastor, the tech for "Barbershop on Broadway." She also made our coffee when Dale Ramont was on vacation. She can do anything and everything!

Tomorrow!

Lilies of the West Concert - July 26

Some of the congregation is planning to attend this free concert. Jill Spence Worley is the lead singer for Lilies of the West and she grew up in our church— daughter of Gordon and Virginia Spence. This will be a fun evening with great music. Check in with Tracy Ramont if you want to know more about the group.

This Sunday!

Series: Meeting God in the Ordinary

Sermon: Fighting with Loved Ones and Passing the Peace

Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

Inspired by the book, Liturgy of the Ordinary; Sacred Practices in Everyday Life by Tish Harrison Warren, we will spend the ordinary days of summer considering ordinary acts in which we engage in an ordinary day and how they invite us into spiritual practices that grow and deepen our connection with God. From making our bed and losing our keys to eating leftovers and fighting with our spouse, we will see what these simple, ordinary moments of our lives can teach us about worship and the life of faith.

Though it is not necessary, if you would be interested in following along by reading the book, you may contact Pastor Kim if you would like her to order a copy for you. The church will provide a physical or digital copy. Those who wish may make a donation to cover the cost. You can find more information on the book or order a copy on your own at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N2GWBNM/ref=kinw_myk_ro_title.

Around the Church Year in One Hour:

Worshiping from Advent to Pentecost

Sunday August 4, 2024

"The Liturgical calendar reminds us that we are people who live by a different story. And not just by a story, but in a story. God is redeeming all things, and our lives--even our days--are part of that redemption"

--Tish Harrison Warren, "Liturgy of the Ordinary"

We know that as followers of Jesus we are called to live differently than those around us. We are called to behave differently and live by a different set of values. But have you ever considered that as disciples of Jesus we are also called to tell time differently? Not that we refuse to use our clocks and calendars, but we remember that we have a church calendar that invites us to live our lives within the narrative of Jesus' life and ministry--from anticipating his birth through his ascension.

Join us on Sunday, August 4 in worship when, beginning with Advent and journeying through to Pentecost, we celebrate the church year through scripture, prayer, and song

Please note: Communion will not be served as part of this service. Instead, our monthly celebration of communion will be moved to August 11.

Please contact the church office or sign up at church on Sunday if you are interested in attending. The class is limited to 20 participants so be sure to get your name on the list if you are interested.

Gathering of Spirits - August 14

Join us at 5:45 pm at Windsor Browns for a time when our spirits encounter God’s Spirit in spirited discussion on wide ranging topics.

Giving

Please consider making a special donation toward Per Capita.

As part of a connectional church we pay per capita apportionment per member to support the work of the larger Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This year the amount is $40.65 and will be divided between Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. Every Presbyterian shares in the benefit of the PC (USA)'s system of government, so every Presbyterian is asked to share the expenses associated with coordinating and performing the functions of that system. Please consider making this special offering, You may add it to your regular offering, but please make a note that the donation includes an offering to per capita.

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not regretfully or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
