We Are the Church!

Celebrating Pastor Kim

We celebrated Pastor Kim's birthday and anniversary at Anaheim First Presbyterian Church on Sunday. We love you, Pastor Kim!

Gathering at Dr. David and Carol Hughes' Home

It was a great time of fellowship for all who were able to make it. Thanks to David and Carol Hughes for opening up their home!

This Weekend!

OC Pride Parade:

Date: Saturday, October 5th

Location: Orange County Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

Carpool Option: If you would like to carpool, meet up at the Church at 9:30am. We will return shortly after the parade.

Time: The parade will start promptly at 11am, so we will meet up at the Fairgrounds at 10:15am in Parking Lot E (the Northwest corner of the OC Fairgrounds, at Fairview and Arlington) to stage for the parade. We are #5 on the parade route (near the start), so you will find us at that designated area in the parade staging area (Lot E). You must be in our group before the start of the parade as no one is allowed to join in along the route.

Parking: Lot D (alongside Fairview) is the closest parking area to the parade start. Those who wish to park in Lot D may do so by entering through Gate 3 on Fairview (south of Arlington). The next closest to the parade is Lot C (alongside Fair), followed by Lot B (alongside Fair). Parking will be $15. (If you want to stay to attend the festival, the entrance fee is $20. However, admission for Seniors is free)

What to Expect: We will march as a group behind the sign, "Affirming Churches of the Presbytery of Los Ranchos." The parade route itself will be fairly short, just under 1/3 of a mile. Since we will be at the start, we will be able to join the rest of the onlookers to cheer on those that follow behind us.

When we meet up at 10:15am, we will sort out who will –

               Carry the banner

               Carry signs

Handout bracelets w/cards for the Affirming Churches of PLR

               Sparkle Blessings

What to Bring and Do During the Parade: Please wear a tie-dye shirt or something with bright colors. Feel free to accessorize with fun swag! (Check out this Amazon list if you need shirts or ideas). Bring your own water and sunscreen!

This Sunday!

FALL WORSHIP SERIES

Sermon: Why Are Presbyterians Like That? Brains

Scripture: genesis 1:26-27; 2:18-20

This series is based on a study by Rev. Dr. John Williams. Like most Christians throughout history, Presbyterians affirm the faith articulated in the Nicene Creed and Apostles Creed, but we are distinguished by the particular ways we live out our faith in Jesus. We don’t claim to be the only Christians who emphasize the elements of Christian faith discussed in this series, but we do believe that these common emphases and themes mark us as distinctive in the Christian family.

Discernment Journey

We have begun a study of the congregation to identify our strengths and discern God's leading for our future. The first step on this journey was a survey. Thank you to those who participated in this step!

Though the survey deadline has passed, you can read the letter that went out the last week of August about why we are embarking on this journey by clicking here.

WANT TO KNOW HOW TO HELP THOSE IMPACTED BY THE HURRICANE?

In addition to our prayers, here are three places you can consider supporting, both in the short term and long term.

  1. Black Mountain Presbyterian Church's Hurricane Relief Fund
  2. Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Asheville's Pastor Discretionary Fund (choose "Pastor's Discretionary Fund in the drop down menu)
  3. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance's Hurricane Response Fund

Please consider making a special donation toward Per Capita.

As part of a connectional church we pay per capita apportionment per member to support the work of the larger Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This year the amount is $40.65 and will be divided between Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. Every Presbyterian shares in the benefit of the PC (USA)'s system of government, so every Presbyterian is asked to share the expenses associated with coordinating and performing the functions of that system. Please consider making this special offering, You may add it to your regular offering, but please make a note that the donation includes an offering to per capita.

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not regretfully or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
