Celebrating National Library Week

The library connects its patrons to books, curriculum, technology, community projects and programs. Brevard Public Schools libraries are an extension of the classroom. Each school's library media specialist ensures their library meets the needs of its students and educators by fostering a love for reading, providing varied reading materials, teaching informational skills, assisting students to navigate college and career readiness, supporting the increase of high school graduation. Our libraries are a safe place to read, think, tinker, create, discover, expand and much much more. The library is a crucial part of a students academic career and research for future endeavors. Brevard County FSA scores prove that when our high-quality librarians share their expertise with the entire school community; students earn better scores on standardized tests. The school library connects to all its stakeholders and is the 'Third Space,' a space of low stress and a place where all are welcome. It is no wonder why our media specialists and the libraries are the heart of our schools!

Teacher/Student Holiday Coming Soon!

WHAT'S COOL IN SCHOOLS
Brevard's Youngest Students Get Excited about STEM

Gabrielle Bollaert, Gina Clark, Katy McGregor and Michelle Marshall from Educational Technology joined Mrs. Pearlman’s VPK class at Merritt Island High School to host a Spring-themed STEM blended learning lab.

The technology integrators created a station rotation that included a static electricity butterfly experiment, circuit bugs, Makey Makey to explore the lifecycle of a butterfly, and Ozobots which helped to practice sequencing the alphabet. Way to go!
BHS Wins BIG at Space Coast Junior Achievement Innovation Challenge

Bayside High School BETA Academy juniors represented three of four finalist teams at the 10th-annual Balda Family Foundation Innovation Challenge to pitch their ideas - Shark Tank style - in front of a panel of experts.

Bayside took the top three spots! Congratulations!

1st Place - Logan Turbush, Matt LeDoux, Ossiel Rodriguez (left) for their invention, MechP, a device that removes worn down erasers from mechanical pens and stores the replacement erasers that are typically difficult to find in the store. Allows for upcycling of the cheaper mechanical pencils that litter school campuses due to no longer having a usable eraser.

2nd Place - Roslyn Henson, Kiley Williams, and Adam Dawodi for Peeper Privacy by Rokiad, a portable and adjustable device that can be used to cover the gap commonly found in public restrooms providing the user with piece of mind and added privacy when utilizing public facilities. The device is also capable of securing the bathroom stall door when the latch is broken on a public stall.

3rd Place - Tyrell Lyons, Bryan Yancey, Leonard Thomassen for Grip-E, a pencil grip with a forward facing eraser, providing a more comfortable writing experience that allows the user to write longer and more legibly due to increased comfort and reduced pain due to long writing periods typically experienced by students, authors and other professionals.

HEART OF BREVARD
Tricia Kuhblank, Manatee Elementary
Nominated by the Schmalenberger family

Mrs. Kuhblank is absolutely amazing! She brings a level of educational magic, creative inspiration, wonder and awe to Manatee in a way that is completely unmatched and hard for any educator to replicate! She turns reading from something you have to do for school into something you WANT to do and can’t get enough of! Both of my kids have LOVED to read ever since Manatee taught them how. I didn’t even learn to enjoy reading like that until I was college-aged! I absolutely attribute my kids’ interest and desire to read (even outside of their typical genre interests) to Mrs. Kuhblank and Manatee’s reading programs! Manatee’s classroom teachers have also played a BIG part in supporting their students’ educational journey through reading, but Mrs. Kuhblank instills a true sense of wonder and joy that encourages the students to WANT to read… and read more and more and more! Mrs. Kuhblank’s educational magic inspires inside the Media Center and flows throughout all of Manatee Elementary, even pouring outside the school doors and into our homes and hearts. Mrs. Kuhblank is SO appreciated!!
Do you know an employee, teacher or student who has made a difference at your work site or school? We want to hear about them!
