Mysticism – A Seven Week Class

Tuesdays, beginning April 16th | 6 - 7:15 pm | Worship Center, Amity Campus

What is Mysticism? Who are the mystics? What do they have to add to our spiritual life? If you have ever wondered about this, then this is the class for you!

Mystics appear across all religions; this will be, by definition, an interreligious study, but with a heavier focus on Christian mystics. We will greatly rely on the book, Mysticism: A Study and Anthology by F. C. Happold. This is designed to be a somewhat demanding class, requiring about 30 minutes of reading a day for class discussions to be intelligible and valuable. Please have the book purchased and bring it to the first class.

The class will be led by Pastor Brian Thie. Email him at [email protected] to sign-up for the class.

Grief Support Group

Wednesdays, starting April 17th | 4 - 5:30 pm | Bishop's Lounge, Downtown

Following a loss you may experience confusing feelings; some of which might be shock, numbness, sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety, or fear. You may also experience moments of relief, peace, or happiness. Sometimes these feelings are hard to understand and deal with on your own.

A grief support group is often very helpful in providing a safe place to talk about your loss with others who are also experiencing similar feelings. You don’t have to suffer alone. Join a small, caring group of individuals who, like you, want to be free to enjoy life anew, having worked through the feelings of loss.

The course is limited to 8 participants per cycle. Class will continue with future cycles if the course fills. Register for the class by contacting Marcia or Terri:

Terri Rosenthal | [email protected]

NLI 2024 Registration is Open!

Are you wondering if NLI is for you as a member of Cathedral? It is! NLI isn't just for formal leadership, clergy, or lay ministry members. NLI is intended to bring hope, inspiration, and relevant, actionable lessons and ideas to anyone who wants to learn and make a difference in any setting. This year our speakers will talk about leveraging the momentum of hope in crisis, in encountering new territory, and making safer places for those who enter our church and home spaces. There will also be talks that directly address being a good leader in any setting. There is something for everyone here.

And Now...

Christ is risen indeed! What a fantastic holy week, Easter, and Lent we had together!

Thank you for living your faith though worship, generosity, serving, and seeking to make a different world. During Lent we were invited by our Women of the Rock group to be generous to our various ministries and wow, thank you for all that you did during Lent.

Your generosity during lent:

  • 619 cans of soup for our Food panty at the Amity Campus
  • 9182 Diapers & 272 packages of wipes for Our Diaper ministry
  • 2590 healthy snacks for Desert Sage Elementary
  • 119 Hoodies and 68 Sweatpants for Frank Church High School
  • 1210 Toiletry products for Interfaith Sanctuary
  • 550 food items for our food pantry at the Amity campus
  • 89 backpacks for Hillside Jr High reading program
  • 1377 items for our Lunch bag ministry.

You have created and participated in a modern day miracle. This is what it means to make a different world. This is what it means to live our faith. We also gave during Lent an additional $20,000 to Interfaith sanctuary which will begin construction Monday on State St. We have given $65,000 of our $100,000 pledge. I am so honored to serve with you.

Easter Saturday we had 7 baptisms. Wow! (Pictured below)

Thanks for being the church. This Sunday we begin a new series on Forgiveness. What does it mean for us to live forgiveness? Why are we so afraid of conflict? Could dealing with conflict be part of the journey of forgiveness? Sunday we will unpack Matthew 18:15-19.

Grace and peace,

Rev. Dr. Duane A. Anders (He, Him, His)
