You're invited to a community workshop on wildfire preparedness on April 9 at 5 PM

The workshop will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 US Hwy 2 in Leavenworth. This informational event will feature experts from partnering agencies, including Chelan County Fire District No. 3, Chelan County Emergency Management Services, the United States Forest Service, Cascadia Conservation District, and Cascadia Prescribed Burn Association. Presentations will cover vital topics such as:

• Preparedness and Fuels Reduction – Led by the Forest Service, this session will focus on community-wide wildfire readiness and mitigation efforts.
• Homeowner Preparedness & Home Hardening – The Fire District will discuss practical steps to protect your property and share updates on the Chelan County Community Wildfire Preparedness Plan.
• Emergency Alerts, Evacuation & Refuge Areas – Chelan County will provide an overview of their Everbridge communications system to keep residents informed and prepared during emergencies.

The workshop will be recorded for those unable to attend.

Got yard waste?

Thursday, May 1, 8 and 15

Curbside collection for residential yard waste is scheduled for the first three Thursdays in May (1, 8, and 15). You can set out a total of four bags and/or 4′ bound bundles each week, and the City will swing by and collect them for you. Bags and/or bundles should be placed on the curb by 6 AM. each Thursday morning.

Important Reminders:

>> Yard waste must be curbside by 6 AM on collection days.

>> Maximum of 4 bags or bundles per week; can be a combination of bags and bundles NOT to exceed 4 in total. (example: 2 bags + 2 bundles = 4 total OR 3 bags + 1 bundle = 4 total)

>> Each recyclable paper bag should NOT exceed 35 pounds.

NO furniture, appliances, dirt, rocks, sod, and/or construction debris will be picked up.

Construction News

Forest Service to Close Icicle Road Closure for Rockfall Mitigation

Starting Monday April 14th, crews will begin road work on Icicle Road between MP 4.36 and MP 4.92. Work will include Draped Rockfall Protection, installation of Gabion and Concrete Barriers, Roadway Excavation, Ditching, Asphalt Paving, Permanent Signing and Striping, and other minor roadway improvements. Traffic impacts will involve full-width road closures taking place Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and Noon, and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. One lane flagger controlled alternating traffic will take place from the hours of Noon to 1:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM Monday through Friday. Traffic Control Personnel will be stationed at barricades near MP 4.36 (Snow Lakes Trailhead) and at MP 4.92 to help notify vehicular traffic of the road closure and when one lane alternating traffic times will occur.

The road closure is anticipated to take place through late June. More information and contacts can be found at:

WSDOT to remove and replace several illumination and signal cabinets in Leavenworth

Prime Electric will be replacing three signal cabinets at key intersections in Leavenworth from April 14 to April 23. Work schedules will vary between day and night hours.

• Site 13 (US 2/9th St/Evans St): Signal replacements will involve lane closures, with traffic redirected through open lanes. Other work will occur during designated hours or at any time if no lanes are closed.
• Site 14 (US 2/Front St/Chumstick Hwy): The right-turn lane on Front St will close temporarily during foundation work, with traffic redirected through open lanes. Signal replacement will involve similar traffic adjustments.
• Site 15 (US 2/Riverbend Dr): Shoulder closures are planned for foundation work, which may occur day or night. Signal replacement will involve lane closures and traffic redirection.

Staff from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services will be on hand to help you apply for food, cash, and medical benefits.

You can also drop off paperwork, complete a review, make changes to an existing case, or request an EBT card.

YOU'RE INVITED: Release Party at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery

You are invited to the inaugural Salmon Release Party at Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, Friday April 18, 2-6 PM.

This event celebrates the release of their juvenile salmon into Icicle Creek and encourages the community to partake in the process. Participants will earn passport stamps by engaging in activities led by local organizations. Once your stamp book is full, you will bring it to the salmon release station where you will get your very own smolt to name and release into Icicle Creek.
