A Piece of City History

LEAVENWORTH, WASH., 6 / 1 / 1914

Samuel Potter

City Clerk

Dear Sir

Being informed that the popcorn wagon now standing in front of Koerners Drug Store is to be moved across the street under the windows of the Chikamin Hotel. I wish to protest as the fumes and smoke from the wagon is very objectionable to the guests and also being nearby under our living rooms causes us great annoyance also our experience of last season when crowds of boys & men using vulgar language stood around until 1030 and 11: o’clock pm nightly interfered with our business. I wish you would lay this before the Council and if consistant see that wagon is not moved under our windows.

Yours Truly

Capital Budget Identifies $1.3 Million for Leavenworth’s Affordable Rental Project

An excerpt from Senator Brad Hawkins' bulletin (03/05/2024, 4:50pm PST).

"This year’s negotiated Supplemental Capital Budget was made public this afternoon and could receive final Legislative approval as early as tomorrow. I am very pleased to share that the final budget proposes to fund my $1.3 million request to complete Upper Valley MEND’s Affordable Rental Project in Leavenworth.

Thanks to the Marson Family, Upper Valley MEND has a unique opportunity to preserve 31 apartment units in Leavenworth for affordable workforce housing. The organization has already received $600,000 from Leavenworth, $860,000 from Chelan County, and $1 million from the state. The proposed $1.3 million would close the final funding gap to secure the acquisition of the properties."
