New Early Morning Class: Unpacking Jesus
Each Sunday 9 a.m . join Kent Harrop for great coffee and conversation on provocative and timely themes. We explore the Bible and dialogue with a 10 – 12 minute video by pastor and theologian Rob Bell (film maker and bestselling author of Velvet Jesus and Love Wins). Bring your questions, doubts and wisdom. Child care for children of all ages is provided during the 9 a.m. class time. This class meets in the office wing conference room (main floor). Upcoming classes:

September 30th: Experiencing Love: Hebrew Love Poems (erotic poetry in the Bible…who knew?)

I love those shoes. Really? The same way I love my spouse? What's up with the word "love"? It doesn't have much meaning when we use it so loosely. Maybe we don't really get it. Maybe we don't understand what real love is. What it means to give yourself to someone else. We mistake things like friendship, commitment, or lust for love, but God wired us a certain way to experience all that love was really meant to be. Not to hold us back or to make us miss out on way it's meant to be felt.

October 7th: Free Will and God’s Will

We want to know why we are here. If our lives really matter. How our religion is relevant to this life. Today. We want to understand what significance this minute, hour, week, month, and year has for our lives. To our world. We need a God who cares about this life, in this world, right now. We want understand why everything we think, everything we say, and everything we do matters. We don't want to just sit back and wait for something to happen or someday to come. We want to know if all the choices we make now will shape our world and lives for eternity. Because we want our lives to have meaning today, and our lives today to have meaning forever.

Volunteers Needed

The Family Promise program is in need of volunteers for setup and breakdown of room dividers and bed frames for the host week of Nov 25-Dec 2, 2018.
Routine:   Dividers will be brought over to First Parish from First Baptist around noon on Sunday, Nov 25 . Metal beds are delivered by First Parish on Sunday as well, same time. They are somewhat heavy, therefore, it is most helpful, for this work, if volunteers feel they are able to help lift and move larger and heavier things.  After dividers and beds are in place, volunteers are needed for making beds and putting accessories needed by the families. This is lighter work, so if you do not feel comfortable or confident with the lifting and carrying work, this may be the volunteer role for you!  Breakdown will be on Sunday, Dec 2, 2018 .
I will post the signup link for volunteering on the wall outside the sanctuary concerning Family Promise as soon as I receive it from First Parish.
YOUR VOLUNTEERISM DOES NOT GO UNNOTICED. WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO AND YOUR VALUABLE TIME. THIS PROGRAM COULD NOT WORK WITHOUT YOU! THANK YOU AHEAD OF TIME FOR THOSE WILLING TO VOLUNTEER.

P.S. I want to personally thank John and Eileen Hadley for their many years of setting up and taking down for Family Promise.

Blessings,
Bobbie Grant ❤
Tour the Garden School
FBC member Ben Zoba and his brother Jon, in 2016 launched their dream of "The Garden School," a spirit-filled place where graduates of high school or college can take a "gap year," learn to live in community, learn about agriculture through hands on work, and enter into deep conversation about meaning and purpose in life. Two years later, with support from First Baptist and other partners, "The Garden School" has harvested its first crop and begun to live into the dream. On October 7 th from 12: 30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m . Ben will be providing tours of the Garden School (on the site of Camp Mitchman) 36 Foster Street, Beverly.

Stop by as your schedule allows and enjoy seeing a dream become a reality!

Dates : October 14, November 4, December 9

Join FBC one Sunday per month for Yoga - Spiritual Moments and Movement.
Please bring water and a Yoga Mat. Childcare is available during this time. Class is appropriate for Middle School age and up.

Yoga Participants should be able to get up and down from the floor safely without assistance. All participants will sign a basic fitness waiver and must disclose any injuries or physical concerns related to gentle exercise movements.

Class will begin and end with a mindful tuning into our bodies, hearts and spirits.

Marty Lincoln has taken photos of shut-ins in our congregation.

Others may wish to submit pictures of college students who are currently living away from home, family groups, and others who wish to have their photo and information included. Please e-mail such pictures to Pat Haight at phaight@fbcbeverly.org .

Please be sure to include full names of persons in the picture along with addresses, e-mails, and phone information you wish to share. We are looking to have all of these photos collected by October 15.
