Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
This is a very busy week for us in the office. We will be hosting the Synod, or annual meeting/gathering for the clergy and lay delegates, for the Diocese of the Southwest from Thursday evening to Saturday.
Bishop Flavio Adair Torres Sooares, missionary bishop of the Province of Brazil, will be sharing with us at several points. Therefore, I would like to invite you attend our prayer sessions and his talks, as well as Bishop Mark's address to the Diocese. They are as follows:
Thursday, Sept. 20
6:00 pm - Evening Prayer
6:45 pm - Bishop Flavio - Session I
Friday, September 21
11:00 am - Bishop Flavio, Session II
4:30 pm - Session III
Bishop Mark Zimmerman's address will be at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
On Saturday, September 22, at 9 a.m., there will be an ordination service for two of our members, along with three others from our diocese. Deacons Eduardo Gonzalez and Ken Hanna will both be ordained to the priesthood as well as Deacon June Smith, from San Angelo. Noel Collins and her husband, Greg Pfeifer, both who are serving In Albuquerque, will be ordained to the diaconate. There will be a reception immediately following.
For those who would like to intercede for the Synod, you are invited to come pray in McKee Chapel whenever you can on Thursday night from 6:30 pm-9:00pm and all day Friday from 8:30am-6:30 pm. From Courtney Brown: "I will be there most of the time-please pray with me for our diocese! Come, Holy Spirit! Do what only You can do as we pray! If you have any questions or ideas, please call me! (915) 276-7411."
On Sunday, September 23, Bishop Flavio will be with us to preach at both 8:30 am and 10:45 am services.
In addition, we will have a forum on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Whyburn-Rodrick Hall with out missionaries to Nepal, Pete and Sylvia Newton.
On Sunday at 2:30 p.m., we will be having a memorial service for Betty Taber in the main sanctuary. Also, we are saddened by the passing of Bill Macatee this morning. We will keep you informed as to when the service will be.
Yours in our Lord Jesus,
The Rev. Bill Cobb+
