Creation Conversations

St. James joins many churches around the world from different Christian traditions in observing the Feast of Creation in Christ and a period of weeks leading up to our Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Oct. 4th. This Season of Creation affords us a time to think about what it means for the Church to confess that the Triune God has created all things through Jesus Christ, and how that confession drives us to see and value the created order in which we live. The Rev. Peter Tierney will lead two sessions to discuss Creation in Christ following the 10am worship services on Sept. 13th and Sept. 20th. We will meet during Coffee Hour in the ECW room.

Parish Pasta Party!

Our Parish Pasta Party is set for Saturday, October 24th at 5pm. RESERVATIONS, WITH PAYMENT, ARE A MUST. Vestry members will be available after services to take those reservations and payments. The menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, Italian bread and butter, various desserts and beverages. We are asking parishioners to sign up to bring some desserts and the church will provide various beverages. If you are contributing an item for the auction, please let Shirley know by October 17th. The event is open to family and friends, not just members of St. James.

Food Bank

As unwanted calendars and note cards arrive in the mail please recycle them to the Food Bank. We add them to our holiday baskets along with whatever personal care products have accumulated during the year. On that note, anytime you have unopened travel sized toiletries they, too, will be welcome. We are also looking for newspaper plastic bags and clean bags that you might put your fresh produce in at markets. Believe it or not - I really can’t, but it’s true - we need the full-size plastic bags that were so common at store checkout counters.  And yes, we can always use baked beans and canned fruit. Thanks in advance for your help.

Dressed for Success

Thanks to generous members of St. James, three high school and middle school students living in the Woonsocket Shelter have a new look. Each was taken on a shopping trip and given the opportunity to pick their own sneakers and clothes to start the school year. All three were very appreciative and are very interesting young people. COAT volunteers learned that sweatpants are a must for youth of this age. 🙂

Coat of Many Colors Updates

We are doing a boot call for winter boots sizes 0-100. The ones we have are flying off the shelves. (Per Nancy, if you have a question about the size range, have Lee Ann explain, lol)

It's also underwear stock-up season. Cash and new items of underwear and socks would be greatly appreciated. We were fortunate to receive a donation of 200 pairs of men's Bombas socks through New Beginnings Meal Site, so socks are most needed for women and children of all ages. As always, thank you for helping us help those in need.

COMC's heroes of the month:

  • Roger Peloquin who drilled into concrete to install all the rack brackets in the new room downstairs.
  • Lee Burgess who assisted in installing new shelves and helps keep The Coat processing donations.
  • Mike Rapko, whose generous contribution made the installation possible.

Bible Study

Wednesdays at 6:30pm (following the 5:30pm service; no study on the 4th Wednesday of the month) in the ECW Room. Anyone who is interested in studying the scriptures is invited to attend. Topics are selected by the participants—sometimes we choose a full book of the Bible, sometimes we focus on themes or ideas and trace them to different sections of the scriptures. Come and experience God’s living word!

Last week's Ice Cream Social put a smile on many faces!

Thanks for joining us!
