LEGAL DEFENSE FUND COLLECTION CONTINUES THIS SUNDAY!
The St. James Episcopal Cathedral Chapter granted permission to the St. James Social Social Justice Advocacy and Policy Team for a special collection to be taken in the month of June, to support the Fresno Immigrant Legal Defense Fund. The last collection will be taken this Sunday, June 24th after services. The Immigrant Legal Defense Fund is set up through Faith in the Valley and is only used to provide initial legal representation against deportation for a person who has been detained by ICE. It is not criminal defense. Look for the basket as you leave the service on Sunday!
"MODELED AFTER MARY" CONTINUES WITH CANON ANNA
This Sunday will mark the last presentation in a series which Canon Anna has been presenting during the 9 am Adult Forum. She will continue to share with us her wonderings and research which culminated in her dissertation, Modeled After Mary: A Feminist Collaborative Inquiry Exploring Mary as a Heuristic Concept for Women in the Episcopal Church
UPDATE ON THE DEAN SEARCH:

During the June 17th Chapter meeting, the bishop shared an update on the Dean search process:
--A short list of candidates will be determined at the conclusion of initial interviews prior to the start of General Convention (July 3).
--During General Convention, the Bishop will talk to the Bishops of the short listed candidates and meet with short listed candidates who are in attendance.
--Upon returning from General Convention, the Bishop will submit the names and portfolios (which includes resume, essay responses, cover letters and answers to initial interview questions) to the Chapter for conversation and review.
--The Chapter will have the opportunity to interact with short listed candidates in late July/early August
--The Bishop will make a recommendation to the Chapter of who will be called to serve as Dean.
--An offer to serve will be made by the Bishop's office with a two-thirds consent of the Chapter (per the Canons of the Cathedral)

Please continue to pray for the Bishop, the Chapter, and those in discernment:

O God, you led your holy apostles to ordain ministers in every place: Grant that your Church, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, may choose a suitable person for the ministry of Word and Sacrament here at St James, and may uphold them in their work for the extension of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Summer Worship at the Cathedral beginning July 1

After much conversation during the Cathedral Chapter meeting on June 17th, it was determined that for the remaining summer months (July and August), because of summer temperatures and ongoing issues with the cathedral air conditioning both the 8am & 10am services will be held in the chapel.

Please note that this is not a permanent change, but rather a short term change to alleviate people being uncomfortable due to rising temperatures, while also giving the Chapter time to address a permanent solution to our aging HVAC system.

Coffee hour will be hosted on the patio following services, and adult education will be on "summer break".

Questions or concerns about this short term summer change should be addressed to Chapter members, Canon Anna or Bishop David.

Also, during the month of July, we are pleased to share that Taize music will be used for the 10am service. Music will be printed in the bulletin so that all can join in singing these beautiful prayers.
