THIS WEEK AT ST JOHN'S

Dear Friends:

We begin the summer worship schedule this Sunday.

One worship service at 9:30 a.m.

It's been a wonderful week for St John's. Please see all the lovely pictures from this past Sunday. Abdi, Chris, and Jean Bosco were confirmed by Bishop Shane at the 10:15 service. Karen McBride was ordained deacon by Bishop Shane at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday afternoon.

We thank God for all of them and we thank God for you. Hope to see you Sunday!

STAR WORDS - Revisited

Many parishioners received a Star Word at Epiphanytide back in January. Words such as "commitment" "faith" "generosity" were printed on little wooden stars and distributed at worship. One of the children received the word "play"! What word did you receive? Would you like to chat about this exercise with others?

On Sunday, June 2, after the Eucharist, bring your coffee to the Parish Hall and we'll share some thoughts about our words and our faith. See Canon Pat Johnston for more information.

TRAINING SESSION

Community Compassion:

Strategies to Support Vulnerable Individuals

An introduction to Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training. This training will provide context about vulnerable individuals in our community and discuss the barriers they experience. We will also look at how we can develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of homelessness, mental health, and substance use. We will review best practices and strategies to respond to individuals who may be in distress and how to navigate difficult situations.

The session includes lunch and breaks. There is no charge for this training; donations are welcome. Maximum 20 participants.

Facilitator: India Bedson, Program Manager, Belong Ottawa

Date: Saturday, June 8, 9 AM to 3 PM.

Multifaith Housing Initiative's annual Tulipathon Walk on Sunday, May 26 was a great success! Many thanks to everyone who generously donated to the St. John’s team. Summer Worship Schedule begins. Combined worship service at 9:30 a.m. We return to regular hours on September 8 - 8:00 & 10:15 AM.
Star Words Conversation immediately following the 9:30 service.

Saturday, June 8

Safety Training Session for Clergy, Wardens, Staff, Greeters-Sidespersons, Community Shop Volunteers, and other interested participants. Belong Ottawa will help the St John's community engage with people who are street-involved or homeless. See detailed announcement above.

Sunday, June 9

Information Meeting on St John's Redevelopment following the 9:30 service.

Saturday, June 22

Indigenous Medicine Walk. St John's welcomes Grandmother Louella Tobias for a reflective walk with teachings at Mud Lake. This event coincides with the Summer Solstice and National Indigenous People's Day. 10 AM to 12 PM. Sign up sheet at the church.
Pow Wow at Madhoki Farms: We will head over to the Pow Wow immediately following the Medicine Walk. Plan to eat there and enjoy the afternoon. Sign up sheet at the church. More information HERE.

HOW YOU CAN DONATE TO ST JOHN'S

Identified donations to St John’s are charitable donations and are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Receipts for donations made directly through St John’s are usually generated on an annual basis. Donations to St John’s through Canada Helps are receipted by Canada Helps.

Here are the different ways that you can give:

E-Transfer

PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance)

Enrol in the PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance) program, whereby a designated monthly amount is withdrawn from a parishioner’s bank account or credit card. Peggy Lister, the Envelope Secretary, will provide you with the application form required to enrol in this program.

Weekly Offering Envelopes

Use identified weekly offering envelopes to make your cash or cheque donation to St John’s. A request for such envelopes goes to Peggy Lister, the Envelope Secretary, who will provide the envelopes.

Cash or Cheque Donation on Sunday

Make a cash or cheque contribution during a weekly service. The donation must be identified (i.e. a name & address on the envelope or a cheque with the donor’s information) if the donor wishes to receive a charitable receipt for the donation.

Canada Helps

Make a donation to St John’s through Canada Helps by scanning the QR code on the weekly bulletin, the QR code on the sign at the back of the church or through the ‘donate’ button on the St John’s website. Canada Helps donations can be for a single time or set up as an on-going monthly donation.
