Lenten Missions: Backpack Sunday

Support the Hillside Jr. High reading program by bringing in backpacks large enough to hold a 3-inch, 3-ring binder. FYI, Target seems to have the best prices on new backpacks!

Amity Garden Update

We will be prepping the ground for garden plots on Saturday, April 6th, starting at 9 am!

Our Amity Campus will start offering individual garden plots this spring. Our aim is the start small by offering plots to ten families at Desert Sage Elementary plus any of our own church members. We need volunteers to help setup the plots and oversee the community garden.

Email [email protected] to request more information!

In addition to starting community garden plots, Amity is also a supporting partner to the Desert Sage Elementary Garden Program. We need experienced gardeners to join a “Garden Committee” to help setup the plots at the school and advise the students and the coordinator on gardening.

Mysticism - A Seven Week Small Group

Tuesdays, 6 - 7:15 pm • April 16th to May 28th • Amity Worship Center

What is Mysticism? Who are the mystics? What do they have to add to our spiritual life? If you have ever wondered about this, then this is the class for you! Because mystics appear across all religions, this will be, by definition, an interreligious study, but with a heavier focus on Christian mystics. We will greatly rely on the book, Mysticism: A Study and Anthology, by F. C. Happold.

This is designed to be a somewhat demanding class, requiring about 30 minutes of reading a day for class discussions to be intelligible and valuable. Please have the book purchased and bring it to the first class. The class will be led by Pastor Brian Thie.

You can contact him to sign-up or ask questions at [email protected].

And now...

Dear friends and members of Amity,

This Sunday we will be moving into Holy Week by celebrating Palm Sunday. We will open worship with a kids parade with palm branches. I am always a bit anxious to see how this goes. They say never work with kids or animals in live show business. Fortunately, we are not in show business, though sometimes it feels a little like that.

As we continue our series, ‘What We Believe’, focused on the Apostle’s Creed, this Sunday we will focus on ‘I believe in… ‘the catholic church’. And here catholic means ‘universal’, not Roman Catholic.

I like to remind people that the church is people, not a building. Throughout Lent, we have been the church: in the grocery store, picking up a little extra for our Lenten Giving project to help people in economic need; in worship – singing hymns and songs of praise; in small groups and fellowship, encouraging each other on our pilgrimage together; and in social justice, working for a society that is more equitable. The church is not a building. The church is people striving to respond to God and bless others, whether we are in the building or not.

See you in worship,

Pastor Brian Thie
