Dear friends and members of Amity,
This Sunday we will be moving into Holy Week by celebrating Palm Sunday. We will open worship with a kids parade with palm branches. I am always a bit anxious to see how this goes. They say never work with kids or animals in live show business. Fortunately, we are not in show business, though sometimes it feels a little like that.
As we continue our series, ‘What We Believe’, focused on the Apostle’s Creed, this Sunday we will focus on ‘I believe in… ‘the catholic church’. And here catholic means ‘universal’, not Roman Catholic.
I like to remind people that the church is people, not a building. Throughout Lent, we have been the church: in the grocery store, picking up a little extra for our Lenten Giving project to help people in economic need; in worship – singing hymns and songs of praise; in small groups and fellowship, encouraging each other on our pilgrimage together; and in social justice, working for a society that is more equitable. The church is not a building. The church is people striving to respond to God and bless others, whether we are in the building or not.
See you in worship,
Pastor Brian Thie
