Get ready for a summer of imagination, creativity, and fun! Each week-long session runs Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm, and features a unique theme that blends hands-on art education with plenty of time for play, exploration, and self-expression.

Heidi Marie Faessel

Turn Your Face to the Sun

Turn Your Face to the Sun was inspired by the quote: “Turn your face to the sun, and the shadows will fall behind you.” Reflecting on the color yellow as the color of optimism, of sunshine; a color that conveys the radiance of the sun and waves of life force energy, Faessel wondered “how can I counteract the darkness (felt both from the depths of winter and dark headline news), both literally and figuratively?”

Artist Bio

Based in Whitefish, Montana, multidisciplinary artist Heidi Marie Faessel creates abstract paintings and sculptures formed from salvaged and everyday materials. Her work investigates the intersections of emotion, though, and shared experience, illuminating the invisible threads that connect us across cultures, time, and place. Influenced by science, psychology, and philosophy, Faessel’s practice reflects a universal search for meaning and belonging within the human condition. 

Faessel was raised mainly in Southern California. She spent her early adult years in New York City, earning a BFA in textile/surface design from the Fashion Institute of Technology/SUNY. She worked professionally in New York City as a textile designer in the home furnishing industry, and after moving to Montana in 2002, worked as a graphic designer while raising two kids in Whitefish. Faessel has received grants from the Montana Arts Council and has shown her work in museums, galleries, and non-profit spaces throughout Montana.

4Letter

It takes a lifetime to create a body of work. Unknowingly, I’ve lived my life in competition with myself, relentless in a self-absorbed push to realize the next “thing” I think I can accomplish. Taking no time to explain, and enjoy with others, what is directly before me. 

The abstract works on display are a self-portrait of thoughts into my abstract life - each with its own unique story that I cannot explain with a simply paragraph. With enthusiasm and passion, a verbal telling is my chosen form. 

Artist Bio

Hello! I’m Luke Avery, the owner of 4Letter Productions. I hail from Vermont. I guess you could say I packed up my wares, headed west, and despite obstacles, managed to prosper in dry goods. Now that’s old school!

4Letter Designs is a Bozeman, Montana-based company I founded in 2011. I originally started with just my mixed media art, but around 2015, I began using my abstract paintings, turning them into one-of-a-kind clothing-ranging from high fashion/formal wear to casual attire. The process I use is quite unique in that I take digital photos of the painting, edit as necessary, and from there it gets printed onto whichever fabric I choose. 

Prior to my most recent collection, I was honored to be chosen as one of the fashion designers for the 2018 New York Fashion Week! What a ride that was, as I was able to learn so much and meet so many amazing people. Together, Laura Harne and I created a few dozen looks for the show… unlike anything that had been down the runway before!

I’d like to thank the community, my friends, and my family for all their support over the years!

BUILDING RENOVATION UPDATES

The West Wing bathrooms are officially competed! THANK YOU to you, to our community, and to Jenny Kahrl, for making this possible. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for each contribution to this project. It was a massive undertaking as we fully updated three bathrooms, and we extend a huge thank you and shoutout to Black Label Construction for all their work!

And now we move on to our next extensive project- the North Side Stairs. We still need your help as we only have $29,500 left to reach our overall fundraising goal!

The North Side Stairs are original to the building, and are in need of a full renovation. The total on this project is $150,000 to transform it into an ADA compliant stairwell. The handrails will be decorated with imagery that compliments the building's architectural details, and lighting will be added for further safety. We are excited to partner with PRG commercial to transform this highly-utilized historic entryway!
