Faculty Lounge Grand Opening on November 20, 5-8pm during Ladies' Night!!

We are hard at work to bring you something new, community-focused, and mission-centric for the Emerson. In the spirit of the Emerson's schoolhouse history, we bring you Faculty Lounge and Homeroom: two exciting spaces that we hope you love and visit often. They are both located in Galleria Hall on the main floor of the Emerson.

Faculty Lounge: gallery & retail space featuring work from Emerson Art Education Faculty. There are currently nine of our instructors that will be offering their work for sale across various mediums including ceramics, painting, jewelry, metalsmithing, painting, and drawing. We are outfitting this space with fun, retro decor and are thrilled to open soon!

Homeroom: a free, hands-on creative space that will be open to all ages.

We are also asking for some contributions to add to the room! Here's what we are still looking for:

  • Rotary phone
  • Candy machine (full size that still works and can be loaded)
  • Pull-down world map
  • Coin operated clothes dryer with a clear front door
  • Clean, tape-free bubble wrap
  • School textbooks

BOZEMAN DOC SERIES:

NATCHEZ

Natchez captures an unsettling clash between history and memory in a small Mississippi town; a layered mosaic of people contending with the weight of the past in a place where it is always present. Equal parts amusing and disturbing, we journey through an antebellum tourist destination at a crossroads as it grapples with a deeply troubled history that is so thoroughly ingrained in its present, we’re left to wonder if it’s actually past at all.

Natchez world-premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival where it won the award for Best Documentary Feature and Special Jury Mentions for Cinematography and Editing.

“[A] sharp exploration of the American South’s unreconciled history. The haunting Natchez is a potent choral portrait of a town reliant on its antebellum past to survive, and how its idiosyncratic citizens navigate — and reflect on — their town’s history and memory. With an observant lens, Herbert foregrounds a dynamic array of distinctive residents…With palpable intimacy, Herbert’s film reveals a looming reckoning that asks the question: who gets to tell America’s story?” – Tribeca Film Festival

GIRL WINTER FILM TOUR

Ever heard of “Girl Dinner”? Filled with yummy small bites and your favorite snacks, we wanted this film tour to be reflective of the dinners we love so much – short films that have range. These stories will fill you up with rad skiing, deep storytelling and good humor – just like your favorite mix of food for “girl dinner.”

No more waiting three, four, five, or ten years between women’s ski films! We’ve picked a few of our favorites debuting this fall for you to snack on. The aim of these screenings is to provide a space to continue the celebration of women in snow sports. All are welcome!

CURRENT EXHIBITS

The Quiet Mundane

Emma Bergman

Emma Bergman's The Quiet Mundane in our Jessie Wilber Gallery

"The Quiet Mundane captures everyday moments, creatures, and people from my life. My process is as much an approach to living as it is a body of work. Rather than viewing my life as a series of monumental moments, I am learning to appreciate the mundane, the repetitive, and the beauty of small things. Rather than letting the mundane slip by, I am attempting to bring the viewer’s focus to the little corner of the world that I inhabit. I believe by observing this, sitting with it for hours, and translating it into paint, I am elevating the mundane to something of importance, as something precious to be savored."

Not So Far Away

Russell Brausch

Russell Brausch's Not So Far Away in our Lobby and Weaver Room Galleries.

"A century of fire suppression, the loss of Indigenous cultural burning, and climate change have created today’s wildfire crisis. It is not a matter of if a fire will come, but when. Federal land employees work tirelessly with little progress, caught between containing fires and restoring damaged landscapes. As hotter, drier climates push fire back into the land through both destruction and controlled burns, my creative process seeks to illuminate this complex history. Through painting, burning, drawing, and textiles, I open different entry points into the wildfire conversation. My research expands on acknowledging and redefining America’s relationship with fire."

Dan Haywood (Animoscillator) and Jacob Garvin (Sex the Cat) have launched a pop-up titled Just Friends featuring a collaborative apparel line in the Emerson's Galleria Hall! There is also an immersive installation of originals to check out. Only here for a limited time!
