Becoming Undone
Rachael Marne Jones
Jessie Wilber Gallery, May 9-June 30
Becoming Undone refers to the initial state of wonder and panic, before recognition takes its infinite hold and quells any spark of discovery beyond what is already known, recognized and comfortable. This state of being forces one to flounder in suspension, grasping for familiarity while enticing us to settle on possibility. In flux, we are forced to revel in a state of entanglement, meaning is emerging and decaying simultaneously; an acceptance of the unknown is mandatory to move forward. Using both human-engineered and “natural” forms that blend and bleed into one another through their shared proximity and processes of degradation, each sculpture is a physical quandary into blurring the line between anthropocentric and geologic time scales. Constructed chaos, implied/invented phenomena, micro/macro scales, still life and landscapes collide within these poems of the discarded.
My work and studio practice explore relation through the fluid interactions of materiality; using the artifacts produced by their emergence as metaphors for personal experiences, contemporary environmental events and as palpations to the limits of anthropocentric perception. Local, global, and interpersonal relationships are explored
to map a moving target of a sense of place. Time scales are rendered fluid. The archeological quality of clay inspires a deep reverence and responsibility for guiding particles into new forms to evoke a material poetry relevant to contemporary times, while paying homage to their deep histories.”- Jones

LGBTQ2S+ Artists in Montana
Lobby Gallery and Weaver Room Gallery, May 9-June 30
The Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture proudly announces the opening of LGBTQ2S+ Artists in Montana, a compelling new exhibition celebrating the creativity, diversity, and resilience of LGBTQ2S+ artists living and working across the state. Curated by internationally recognized queer artist Richard Parrish, this exhibition showcases a dynamic range of artistic media that reflect the rich tapestry of personal identity, lived experience, and connection to place.
From bold to introspective works, the featured artists offer authentic and deeply personal expressions of life as LGBTQ2S+ individuals in Montana. At a time when many in the LGBTQ2S+ community face discrimination and uncertainty, this exhibition serves as both an artistic platform and a powerful affirmation of their enduring presence and impact.

The West Wing bathrooms are officially competed! THANK YOU to you, to our community, and to Jenny Kahrl, for making this possible. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for each contribution to this project. It was a massive undertaking as we fully updated three bathrooms, and we extend a huge thank you and shoutout to Black Label Construction for all their work!
And now we move on to our next extensive project- the North Side Stairs. We still need your help as we only have $29,500 left to reach our overall fundraising goal!
The North Side Stairs are original to the building, and are in need of a full renovation. The total on this project is $150,000 to transform it into an ADA compliant stairwell. The handrails will be decorated with imagery that compliments the building's architectural details, and lighting will be added for further safety. We are excited to partner with PRG commercial to transform this highly-utilized historic entryway!
Thank you for shouldering the scope of this work alongside us. All donations are still being matched, dollar for dollar, by Jenny Kahrl, so your contribution doubles in impact!
