THE QUIET MUNDANE

Emma Bergman

Emma Bergman's The Quiet Mundane in our Jessie Wilber Gallery

"The Quiet Mundane captures everyday moments, creatures, and people from my life. My process is as much an approach to living as it is a body of work. Rather than viewing my life as a series of monumental moments, I am learning to appreciate the mundane, the repetitive, and the beauty of small things. Rather than letting the mundane slip by, I am attempting to bring the viewer’s focus to the little corner of the world that I inhabit. I believe by observing this, sitting with it for hours, and translating it into paint, I am elevating the mundane to something of importance, as something precious to be savored."

NOT SO FAR AWAY

Russell Brausch

Russell Brausch's Not So Far Away in our Lobby and Weaver Room Galleries.

"A century of fire suppression, the loss of Indigenous cultural burning, and climate change have created today’s wildfire crisis. It is not a matter of if a fire will come, but when. Federal land employees work tirelessly with little progress, caught between containing fires and restoring damaged landscapes. As hotter, drier climates push fire back into the land through both destruction and controlled burns, my creative process seeks to illuminate this complex history. Through painting, burning, drawing, and textiles, I open different entry points into the wildfire conversation. My research expands on acknowledging and redefining America’s relationship with fire."

YEAR END AT THE EMERSON

It’s been a phenomenal year and we are so excited to reminisce on the past months and also look forward to 2026! Every class attended, event enjoyed, or donation made have all contribute to lifting up the arts in Bozeman. Thank you for your support as we continue to evolve, and improve, in all that we do, for you, our community.

Some of the things we are proud to have accomplished this year include:

  • Inspiring creativity at every age through increased adult education offerings, summer camps, workshops, performance opportunities, and more.
  • Building community through the arts! Our Emerson events are sprinkled throughout the calendar year and bring around so many new and familiar faces. These events celebrate local and regional talent, invite participation, and offer fresh ways to connect through a variety of creative avenues.
  • Directly invested in building improvements. We renovated restrooms and did a complete overhaul of or north side stairway. Both projects were significant upgrades to our historical building.
  • Added two new spaces to Galleria Hall! Faculty Lounge is a retail shop featuring work by our Emerson Art Education instructors. Come by to see their work and shop for the holidays! Also down the hall is Homeroom, a free community art room. Bring your friends and family on December 6 from 12-3pm for some organized holiday crafting fun!

We are excited to close out this year and move into the next. Thank you for being a part of the Emerson, and supporting the work we do. We look forward to seeing you soon!
