News from the Library Foundation

If you haven’t already done so, be sure to get your tickets for the Redwood City Library Foundation (RCLF) Upscale Pub Crawl (Pub-Libations) on September 21 in recognition of Banned Books week. In 1922, speakeasies (pubs serving banned beverages) had to quietly let people know where they could share a drink. In 2022, we are making sure that libraries do not become the speakeasies for banned books. "Banning books is banning stories, and banning people’s stories is banning people." -Schuyler Bailar, Educator, Author, Advocate
Ticket holders will check in at the Downtown Library and then enjoy discounted libations (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) at participating downtown establishments, including Alhambra, City Pub, CRU, Gourmet Haus Staudt, LV Mar, The BottleShop, The Hub, and The Sandwich Spot (with more to come). Each pub will feature a banned book display with an RCLF board member present to answer questions.
Date: September 21, 2022
Time: 5 – 8 p.m.
Location: Downtown Redwood City
The RCLF has been supporting library initiatives for 24 years. We hope you can join us on September 21 in continuing this effort. Go here to purchase tickets. Tickets purchased before September 1 qualify for an Early Bird discount.

The final days of Summer Learning Challenge
|
|
There's one more week of our Summer Learning Challenge. Have you finished? We are taking finishers through August 31. By completing the finisher form children ages 18 and under are entered into a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship. The child must be a resident of Redwood City to be eligible to win.
Our annual Summer Learning Challenge is a proven way to combat Summer Slide and inspire a love of reading in children. Numerous studies have shown that summer programs at libraries help ensure that school children retain reading and learning skills over the break. The program and many Library events throughout the year are generously funded by Friends of the Redwood City Library.
