The Bottle Shop
is open during these hectic and trying times. The new shop hours are 9am to 8pm daily until further notice. We hope you all remain safe during these times and we thank you for your loyalty and support. The Bottle Shop has milk, butter, bread, water, snacks, firelogs, and other miscellaneous items for your convenience. Of course, in addition to that, it has the best selection of spirits, beer, and wine around!
The Tasting Room will remain closed until further notice. However, if you would like to taste the wines in the comfort of your home while I tell you about the wines, see below for details on how to do that this Friday!
Virtual Wine Tasting with G-Rated Wines!
For those of you who would like to taste the wines I've selected for this week, join me on Zoom this Friday at 8pm and I will personally tell you about the four wines being featured.
All you have to do is stop by The Bottle Shop on Thursday or Friday and select any of the featured wines you would like to take home. You can take all four home or just one or two or three, whichever you prefer. Get some friends to taste with you and split the cost of the wine! It's all up to you!
If you prefer, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your selection. Just tell me what you want to order and give me your phone number in the email. I'll get the order together then call you for your credit card info. You can then come pick it up curbside at the Bottle Shop (text me at 626-325-8545 to let me know you are on your way) or I'll deliver to you at your home. Delivery only within the city limits of Sierra Madre. You must be 21 and over to purchase wine. I'll even wipe down the bottles beforehand!
Curbside service will be from 4pm to 5pm Friday only. Delivery times will be from 3pm to 4pm Friday only.

We are offering these wines at special pricing Thursday through Sunday. Look below for the special pricing for those days. We may not be able to sip the wines together at The Tasting Room, but we can still enjoy the wines together in spirit!
Here's the lineup.... btw, all these wines (for that matter ALL wines) are plant-based, gluten-free, and low-carb! BOOYAH!
Bernier Chardonnay, Val de Loire 2018 $10.99 Special Virtual Price $9.89
What a value and just the way I love my chardonnay! Crisp, clean, bright, and focused. Not oaky at all but fresh and vibrant. Green apple tartness with minerality on the finish. A wonderful chardonnay from France for a fantastic price!
Idle Chatter Red Wine, California 2017 $17.99 SVP $11.04
This is the type of wine we love to find for you. A mind blowing wine that over delivers. Dark fruit, chocolate, little bit of spice. Very balanced with brightness and just the right amount of acidity on the finish. One of my favorite wine reps, Casey O'Brien is the winemaker and he did a heck of a job with this beauty. 70% Syrah (from 95 year old vines), 25% Petite Sirah, and 5% Viognier. Originally priced at $17.99 we now have it at $12.99 in the shop. Check out the special Virtual Tasting Price of $11.04
Peake Ranch Pinot Noir, Sta Rita Hills 2016 $39.99 SVP $33.99
I have been waiting for this wine to come into the shop ever since Jay and I first tasted this beauty. From my favorite AVA - Sta Rita Hills - comes this gorgeous, elegant, plush Pinot Noir. Red cherry, licorice, and soft, supple tannins. Peake Ranch sources its grapes from three vineyards for this wine - Peake Ranch, John Sebastiano, and Sierra Madre. Don't pass this one up especially at this great price!
Sparkman "Holler" Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley 2017 $29.99
Holler is named for Red Hollow, the place where Sparkman owner Chris's parents live in Knoxville, Tennessee. It's a Cabernet Sauvignon based wine, with small portions of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Sourced from multiple vineyards in the Colombia Valley AVA ( Obelisco, Dyonisus, Olsen, Kiona, Oasis and Klipsun). Aged in French and American Oak for 18 months. Black fruit, coffee, spice, cigar, and licorice. Supple tannins. Outstanding cabernet sauvignon for a ridiculous price!
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES
Please support your local businesses during these perilous times. They can use your support more than ever right now. I will highlight a business each week for your consideration.
Poppy Cake is my son's favorite place to grab a delicious sandwich. He loves the Classic Albacore Tuna Sandwich while I'm partial to the Italian Sandwich. Brittainy and Matthew Turnquist are the owners and creative force behind the counter. When things settle down and we can have wine events again, I sure do want to do a wine pairing with their amazing selections!
Prepared sandwiches are ready to be picked up between 8am and 3pm. Give them a call at 626-355-9000.
Today would have been the opening day for Major League Baseball. Oh I was really looking forward to this season. My White Sox looked very good and were promising to be a contender. For all of you who miss the best damn game in all of sports, and for those who miss the sweet reassuring tones of Vin Scully, take a listen to his conversation with Bill Plaschke a few days ago. Vin talks about how he's faring through these troubled times and how baseball is missed and will be a beacon of hope when it returns. Vin for president!

In the LA Times article, Vin mentions that if he were stranded on a desert island and he was allowed to take one movie, that movie would be "Singing In The Rain." He goes on to say "
I would hope the whole world would watch that, because it's so charming, so heartwarming, so optimistic," he says. "You can't watch 'Singin' in the Rain' without singing along, humming along, watching Gene Kelly dance on the edge of the gutter and splash in the water ... I think that's what people should do, try to find the happiest movie they can."
So here's a clip of Gene Kelly splashing, dancing, and singing in the rain......
Lastly, I heard the comments from the Lt Governor of Texas implying that seniors should sacrifice themselves for the good of the economy. I thought of this John Prine song and how this song is about compassion and being human. It's one of my favorite songs ever. It touches your heart and soul. It reminds us of how we need to look out for one another no matter their age or condition in life. What a beautiful message this song has. Written back in 1971 when John was 25 years old, this song resonates just as much now as it did back then. It's just about one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard. God bless you all during these times. Take care, stay healthy and safe, and let's help each other and we'll get through this the stronger and better for it, and don't forget to say hello in there, hello.
So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello"
