We continue the 2011 Texas Music Festival this week with the third concert in our PERSPECTIVES series entitled "Sensuous Perfume" featuring the world premiere of David Ashley White's "As you set out for Ithaca" along with works by Gershwin, Vieuxtemps, Brahms, and Hindemith.
On Saturday, June 25, we present our Festival Orchestra with conductor Carl St.Clair performing Christopher Theofanidis's "Rainbow Body" and Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7. Also performing with the Festival Orchestra, we have the 2011 Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition winner, Lachezar Kostov. Mr. Kostov will be performing Saint-Sa�ns' Concerto No. 2. His seminal Grand Nonetto for Winds and Strings poses the question, "Who needs Beethoven?" Descending from the traditions of Dvorak and Brahms, Arthur Foote's luscious Romantic Piano Quintet (1897) and Kent Kennan's Trumpet Sonata demonstrate the evolution of American music.
