This week's fun activity...

DANDELION PLAYDOUGH
Dandelions can be a wonderful addition of color in a lawn, but they also work equally as well as a coloring agent for play dough.

This week, let’s use dandelion flowers to make a brilliant yellow batch of play dough!
Materials:
  • Blender
  • A Pile of Dandelion Flowers (approximately 1 cup) – flowers only, no stems!
  • One Cup of Water
  • 2 Cups of Flour
  • 1/3 Cup of Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons of Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
Step 1 - Dandelions

Head outside and find some dandelions!

Pick off the flowers (get permission first!) and gather a big handful (approximately one cup worth).
Step 2 - Boil

Boil one cup of water.  Alternatively, heat it in the microwave for a minute or two to raise the temperature.

Be careful when working with boiling water!
Step 3 - Blend

In a blender or large food processor, blend the hot water and dandelions.

Keep blending until the dandelions are completely broken down.

Transfer your dandelion mixture to a bowl to add the rest of the ingredients.
Step 4 – Stir

Add the oil, salt, and cream of tartar.
Mix well so that the cream of tartar and the salt are completely dissolved.

Your mixture may look like a brown color at this point, but don’t worry, it’s still yellow!
Step 5 – Flour

Slowly add in the two cups of flour and stir until it’s fully mixed.
Step 6 – Stir

Add the oil, salt, and cream of tartar.
Mix well so that the cream of tartar and the salt are completely dissolved.

Your mixture may look like a brown color at this point, but don’t worry, it’s still yellow!
Step 7 – PLAY!

Once you’re done kneading, the play dough is ready!

Enjoy your naturally-colored dandelion yellow play dough.
Remember, this is for playing, not for eating!
