Atwater Community Members Holding
a Potluck for the Homeless

Community members are gathering for another Atwater Village Homeless Stakeholder Potluck t his  Sunday, August 12 from 10:30 AM until 12 NOON. The event is happening  in Bond Park, right next to the Runner's Circle (3216 Los Feliz Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039),  across the street from the municipal golf course on Los Feliz Blvd.
Last time, volunteers brought various types of food - pizza, packed sandwiches, grilled chicken, water, fried rice, fruit, healthy portable snacks.

The AVNC Homelessness Committee has plenty of Hygiene Kits to put to good use!. We're also happy to announce that there will be several service providers who plan to be in attendance, including PATH (People Assisting the Homeless), Homeless Health Care, and Ascencia.

**Please note, this event is open to any homeless stakeholder - not just limited to folks in Atwater Village - and is NOT associated with the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council.

To learn more about the groups organizing these grassroots events, please check out this article, which features two AVNC Homelessness Committee members - Josh Hertz and Mike Batistick!

Welcome Jeff Marvan and Anthony Forrester to the AVNC

When the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment announced that the term for Neighborhood Council Board Members would be extended by a full year, we lost several valuable board members - David Kerns, John Bradley, John Ciulik, and Weston Westenborg. In June's meeting we filled the two North Atwater Representative seats with Grace Santillano and Teresa Prindle, and in July the AVNC welcomed Jeff Marvan as our Business Representative, and Anthony Forrester as one of our Central Atwater Representatives.

The AVNC currently has no vacancies for board members, but is always looking for help from our stakeholders at the committee-level. If you are interested in joining a committee take a look at the options by clicking here  and emailing the chair of the committee that interests you most!

Pet Adoption Fees Lowered This Weekend!

This past weekend, LA Animal Services adopted out 328 cats and dogs, bringing their adoption total for the week to 880 adopted pets!

This Saturday and Sunday, August 11th and 12th, all six LA Animal Services Centers will reduce adoption fees again for all cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.

Adult Dogs (5 months and older) $51.00
Puppies (4 months and under) $75.00
Adult Cats (5 months and older) $12.50
Kittens (4 months and under) $25.00

All six of our animal shelters are filled with hundreds of amazing pets of all sizes, ages, colors, hair length and breeds. They are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before going to their new homes. While the dog adoption fees are reduced, there will be a $20 dog license fee applied for LA City residents.

LA Animal Services also offers free and discount spay/neuter vouchers for all LA City residents. You can now apply online and find more information in English and Spanish at  www.laspayneuter.com.

Potential foster volunteers can print out the LA Animal Services foster application available online or visit one of six animal services centers to apply.
