Now through December 24th!

The Central County Fire Department will once again be working with local merchants to collect toys for its CCFD Toy Drive.  Barrels will be placed in various locations throughout Burlingame, Hillsborough, and Millbrae where the public can drop off new, unwrapped toys.  Click here for a complete list of local drop off locations.

Final pick-up of toys and donations will be on December 24.  No time to shop?  Monetary donations can be made out to: CCFD Toy Drive, 1399 Rollins Road, Burlingame, CA  94010.  For more information, please visit the website or email Firefighter Herman Barahona at hbarahona@centralcountyfd.org.
energyCurious About Community Choice Energy?
San Mateo County is exploring providing cleaner electricity for the region

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors recently unanimously voted to establish a Community Choice Energy (CCE) program in the County known as the Peninsula Clean Energy Joint Powers Authority. CCE programs allow local governments to pool the electricity demand of their communities to purchase power with high renewable energy content such as from solar, wind, and geothermal sources. Over the next couple of months San Mateo County cities and towns will be deciding whether to join the Peninsula Clean Energy Joint Powers Authority. Learn more about how a CCE works and what it means in Burlingame here.

coolcalHelp Burlingame Win the CoolCalifornia Challenge
We are currently in 3rd place (out of 22 participants!)

Burlingame residents are invited to join the CoolCalifornia Challenge and earn dollars for "green" projects in our city. Participants earn points by reducing their household energy, water use and transportation emissions. Every point earned increases the city's rank in the statewide standings. Prize money is awarded to fund sustainability efforts that benefit communities.

Click here to learn more and signup. Signups began October 1st and will continue through December 15, 2015. During that period, the cities that get the most participants to sign up can earn double points. The Challenge continues through March 31, 2016, when the city with the most points is crowned the "Coolest City in California" and all cities participating receive prize money based on the percentage of points earned by households in their city.

This is the second year that the Citizens Environmental Council of Burlingame has administered the CoolCalifornia Challenge on behalf of the City of Burlingame. Last year, our city earned nearly $3,000. This funding sponsored projects including the "Green Programs on Hot Topics" series at the Burlingame Public Library, educational handouts and an organic garden that Burlingame High School students planted on campus.
