foundationParks and Recreation Foundation
Names scholarship fund in honor of  Jeffery T. Griffith

During the Burlingame City Council Meeting on September 8, 2015, the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Foundation will name its scholarship fund in honor of Jeffery Thomas Griffith.

Jeff Griffith, the founder of Burlingame Park and Recreation Foundation, was born in San Francisco in 1944, and lived most of his life in Burlingame, with the exception of a few years spent serving in the US Navy. He attended Burlingame schools and his family owned Griffith Plastics in Burlingame.

Professionally, Jeff was a Registered Engineer in the State of California, earning a B.S. at the University of San Francisco and an M.B.A from Golden Gate University. He began his career in the family business at a young age; followed by several positions in manufacturing, and culminating in a twenty year role as Vice President of Manufacturing at Dolby Laboratories in San Francisco.

Jeff believed in sharing with those less fortunate and spent much of his life volunteering for organizations including the Burlingame Library, HIP Housing, Burlingame Bobby Sox, BCE, Brisbane Chamber of Commerce, the Burlingame Park and Recreation Commission, the San Mateo Rotary and the San Mateo County Grand Jury. Jeff even taught home repair at the Burlingame Recreation Center.

Jeff wanted to start the Park and Recreation Foundation because he recognized that there are families in this community who need help. Jeff believed in giving back and knew that just a little bit of help could make a big difference. After seeing the success of the Burlingame Library Foundation, he wanted to create a similar organization for the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department. Discussions began in 2009, and the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Foundation was created in 2012.

Jeffery Thomas Griffith passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at his home in Burlingame, surrounded by his loving family.  In his memory, the Parks and Recreation Foundation named its scholarship program the Jeffery T. Griffith Scholarship Fund.

The mission of the Park and Recreation Foundation is to raise funds that provide scholarship assistance for enrollment in Park and Recreation programs, fund additional Park and Recreation programs, and provide necessary equipment, repairs, and capital improvements as needed to Burlingame facilities.

If you would like to attend the dedication, please come to the City Council Meeting on September 8, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Burlingame City Hall

To make a donation in Jeff's honor, please click here or mail a check to the Burlingame Parks and Recreation Foundation at 850 Burlingame Avenue, Burlingame, CA  94010.
