Our Business Of The Week
Windsong Chorus
of the Sweet Adelines
lambrechta@re1valleyschools.org……………………………….(970) 580-3048
Glenna Phelps- Aurich, Executive Director of Logan County Chamber of Commerce presented the Logan County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Week honor to the Windsong chorus of the Sweet Adelines represented by (front row) Dana May, Annette Lambrecht (Director of Windsong), Judy Kimball, Mary Sutter, Susan Gunnels and (second row) Mary Ann Anderson, Earleen Friedly, and Molly Mitchell. Also in attendance the RE-1 Valley Children’s Chorale.

….. In 1971, the first organized get-together of Windsong Chorus took place under the leadership of Curt and Judy Kimball. The Kimball’s moved to Sterling in 1970 and brought with them a new and exciting kind of music – the Barbershop sound. Judy served as the first president of the organization and Dr. Kimball was the musical director. Their goal was to provide an opportunity for women who love to sing to join together and share songs, smiles and friendship. It also affords the members an opportunity to share their talent and generosity with the community.
…..Having received their charter from Sweet Adelines International in 1971, on Oct. 16, 2021, Windsong Chorus presented their 50th anniversary show “50 Years of Friends in Harmony”. During their 50 years the chorus has been under the leadership of four different capable directors. In 1972, under the direction of Dr. Kimball, the chorus competed for the first time in Denver and placed second their first time out! Windsong has competed nearly every year, bringing home many medals and small chorus awards. Windsong’s annual show is a source of pride to each and every member.
…..The annual production involves work and dedication from each and every member even before they get on stage to entertain. In 1993, Windsong Chorus and The Centennial State Chorus joined together to give their first joint. Christmas show. This beautiful tradition invites members from the community to share their talents during the Christmas season, even if they are not able to be members of the chorus. Over the years this show has raised thousands of dollars and tons of food items that are donated to the Cooperating Ministry of Sterling.
…..Over the last 50 years financial contributions have been made from show proceeds to various organizations in the community. Windsong has also provided book scholarships to students at NJC and most recently, provided scholarships to help youth members to continue their education.
…..Please join Windsong Chorus, Centennial Start and Re1 Valley Children’s Chorale and friends as they perform Light, Joy and Peace a Christmas Show 3 p.m. at the Sterling High School Auditorium with a suggested $ donation and 2 non-perishable food items. These proceeds are to benefit Logan County Cooperating Ministry.
…..Windsong Chorus members range in age from 18-57 and come from Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas. To join contact Annette Lambrecht at 970-580-3048 or lambrechta@re1valleyschools.org.
